Cuba
Gooding
plays an ad executive Darrin Fox and is called back to his
hometown when one of his wealthy aunt passes away. The reason
being that he is to claim a big inheritance. But the problem
is that in order to claim it, he has to do a certain thing-
that is to form a gospel choir and make a success out of
them.
And
it is one of his childhood friend Terri (Beyonce
Knowles)
who come as his trump card to success.
Initially
the movie was written as a Sean Comb starrer. But then since
things changed to Cuba Gooding, a lot of the needful rewriting
took place. And from the early looks, the movie is all set to
please.
Beyonce
Knowles is already shooting high at the popularity charts,
and after her 'Goldmember' debut, she can look forward to this
role that gives her ample scope to exercise her vocal chords
too.
Cuba
Gooding Jr. unfortunately is still remembered for his
outstanding performance of
Jerry Maguire
and none of his
performances after that has managed to revive that brilliance.
Not that this film will, but it is high time that he got a
major film of his own that he can sit back and claim to be all
his.
The
comedy is being directed by Jonathan Lynn who had
earlier brought us some decent entertainers like Whole
Nine Yards,
My
Cousin Vinny,
Sgt.
Bilko.
It
is no secret that the major USP of this movie will be its
musical-ness and one can expect a real good soundtrack for
this movie that will feature the biggies in the R&B,
Hip-hop and the gospel world of music. And it certainly been a
long time since a nice comedy on the lines of Sister Act came
along the way.
