Part Eleven (11) "This place gets weirder and weirder everyday," Rei remarked, looking around at the interior of the large palace. "This place looked a lot smaller from the outside," Ami said, "I could have sworn it wasn't this big when we were outside." "Careful, we have to stick together in this." Darien said, "We don't want to get lost." "I'd feel better if we transformed. That way we could have our powers in a jiffy." Lita said. "Great idea. Everyone, transform!" Luna said. She kept an eye on them so nothing would pop out while they were still transforming. "Now which way?" Sailor Venus asked. She looked at the three doors infront of them. Each one probably led to a different trap. "She's probably just waiting for us to go into one door and it's going to be a trap." Sailor Mars said. "True, but what else is there to do? This is the only way in." Tuxeedo Mask said. "Well, I think we should go into this one first and make our way clockwise through each door to find her." Sailor Jupiter told them. "Your guess is as good as mine," Jadeite agreed. They all started moving slowly to the large closed door. Everyone was so poised, ready to jump at anything. They half expected something to actually shoot out of the walls like darts or other miscellaneous pointed killers. Mako seemed to sense the serious affair of this and didn't walk as bouncily or as carefree as she usually did. She crept around like they did, conscious of every step. Sailor Mars pointed to Mako, "She shouldn't go with us. It's too dangerous. I think you should tell her to go out and as far away from this place as she can. It would be too hard to protect her and fight Serenity at the same time, Nephryte." Nephrite half nodded, before a voice said inside of his head, "She is a vital part of this mission. Take her or die." "No, I have a hunch that she might be needed. You guys don't mind her, I'll take full responsibility and protect her." Nephryte said. "You have a hunch? How might she be needed? She's not a scout, she has no power." Sailor Mercury said, "Mars is right, I think she would just be trouble." "No, let her come along. I think we might need her later," Sailor Jupiter said, surprising most of them. "What do you mean she might be needed? Why do you all say that?" Hera asked. "I don't know, I just kind of feel it." Sailor Jupiter said. "I guess we'll take her along," Jupiter Knight agreed, not only because he was agreeing with his girlfriend, but also, he learned to go with Sailor Jupiter's hunches since most of the time, they proved to be true. He knew in the short time he's been with them that the voices of most of the hunches were subtle meanings from the Scout of Time. "Okay, we don't have time to debate over this small thing. Let's just take her and go find Serenity. I feel there's not much time left." Tuxeedo Mask said. He opened the great oak door that led into darkness. Suddenly, he was swallowed in that darkness and he couldn't be seen anymore. "Tuxeedo Mask? Are you alright?" Sailor Venus asked, who was directly behind him. No answer. "Tuxeedo Mask?" Sailor Mars echoed. Still no answer. "Hey, Cape Boy! No time for funny stuff. Are you there or not?" Jupiter Knight asked, knowing that if anything would make Darien talk, it was calling him Cape Boy. "Tuxeedo Mask!" Sailor Mercury yelled. The usual no answer. Sailor Mars started for the now open door. Nothing could be seen inside except pitch black. She was about to step into it when a hand grabbed her arm. Jadeite pulled her back, preventing her to be swallowed in it too. "Let me go! We have to go find him!" Sailor Mars screamed, struggling with Jadeite. "No! Don't you see it's a trap? If you go, you'll end up trapped in there like him. He wouldn't want that. Tuxeedo Mask can fend for himself for now. We have to find what's behind the other doors." Jadeite said, shaking Sailor Mars' shoulders. "Let go!" Sailor Mars yelled again, and kicked Jadeite in the shins. She was determined to go find Darien. Momentarily, Jadeite let go, and saw Mars about to run into blackness. Instinctively, he reached for what was nearest to him, her red heels. He caught one and pulled. The red scout fell hard onto the floor and stayed there, still. "Mars? Mars? Are you alright? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to do that." Jadeite said, crawling to Sailor Mars, who was face down on the floor. "Sailor Mars," Sailor Jupiter said, the second the reach the outstretched scout on the floor. She placed a hand on Mars's shoulder and shook it slightly. Sailor Mars's shoulders heaved a little, giving away to her sobbing. She put her head on her arms, crying silently. "Mars, I'm sorry I had to do that. I couldn't lose you in there." Jadeite said, hoping he didn't hurt her too badly. "No, that's okay." Sailor Mars said softly, still crying. She raised her tear streaked face up, "I'm not crying because of that. Thanks for making me come to my senses." She wiped her tears away with her gloves, "First, Serena is not acting like herself. Now Darien is gone. We're losing all of them. All of us one by one will be gone." Sailor Jupiter pulled Sailor Mars up on her feet, looking her in the eyes, she said, "Sailor Mars, are you giving up on Sailor Moon?" "No but-" "We're going on. When we find Serenity, Tuxeedo Mask will be there, okay?" Sailor Jupiter asked with a voice full of determination. Little did they know that she was every bit as insecure and scared about this as they were. "Okay," Sailor Mars said. Out of the black darkness, they all saw the image. Darien was looking at them, his hands plam toward them as if he was leaning on a window and looking out at them. "Darien!" Sailor Venus shouted. She was about to run to him instintively and to help him, but Darien shook his head fiercely. "Go on without me. Serenity will be there." Darien said. All nodded as they saw his image disappear. "Which door now?" Sailor Jupiter asked, looking at the remaining two doors. "Let's stick with the original plan. Go clockwise. So it's that door," Nephryte said, pointing to the one on the right of them. "Okay, be careful, everyone." Luna cautioned all of them. Nephryte threw open the door and jumped back, waiting for the same fate Tuxeedo Mask had. Nothing happened. Infront of them, was a long marble hall, extending what seemed like forever. On either side of the skinny hallway were small door varying in sizes. "Here we go," Nephryte said, holding on to Mako's hand and going in first. They all breathed a sigh of relief when Nephryte stepped safely into the door. Since the hallway was so narrow, it would only permit two people to stand side by side and not one more. They were walking double file down the long hallway. Mars and Jadeite followed, infront of Sailor Venus and Mercury. The three cats were bringing in the rear inback of the two Jupiters. "Nephryte!" Jadeite shouted as soon as he saw both Nephryte and Mako's figures dissapear right before his eyes. It was like they walked and disappeared in thin air. "Mako?" Sailor Mars asked, wondering what happened to the two people right infront of them. "Into thin air," Sailor Jupiter breathed, seeing what happened from the back. She wasn't able to contemplate any more on it, feeling a weird tingling sensation begin at the tip of her toes, then creep severly up her legs. When Sailor Jupiter looked down at what was happening, it was happening all too fast. First, there was some sort of electricity, causing sparks at her heels to roam up, which was probably the tingling sensation. Then, as soon as the sparks dissapeared, so were her legs. All this was happening in half a second. The next minute she knew, she was alone in the dark. "Hello?" Sailor Jupiter asked, looking around her. It was too dark to see anything. She didn't hear anything either. "Sailor Jupiter!" Someone called her name, and she turned, only darkness. A hand landed protectively on her shoulder. "Jupiter Knight," Sailor Jupiter sighed. At least she wasn't alone, "I can't see anything." "Open your eyes," Jupiter Knight told her. True, she didn't know how long her eyes were closed, but when she opened them, she saw it wasn't as dark as she thought. Hell, it wasn't even dark. Everywhere was a bright icy-white, with icicles on the ceiling, ice at their feet. As soon as her eyes opened, the feeling kicked in. Sailor Jupiter felt the biting cold wind. So cold it was burning her skin, like touching a block of dry ice. She put her gloved hands around her, crossing her arms. "Cold?" Jupiter Knight asked, feeling her shiver. "N-n-no," Sailor Jupiter lied. Her whole body went on a twitching spasm, her muscles trying to pump warm blood. Jupiter Knight looked at her upper arm, seeing the blue blood flowing through the veins in her almost translucent skin in the cold air. He stripped off his outer jacket, the green tux and put it around her shoulders. He massaged some warmth into her with his arms. Sailor Jupiter looked gratefully at him, "T-t-thanks. Aren't y-y-you g-g-g-oing t-to be c-c-cold?" "No, mine is insulated," Jupiter Knight said, pointing to his thick long sleeved shirt. "R-r-remind me t-t-o tell Luna t-that we need warmer c-clothes." Sailor Jupiter said. Although it was warmer than before, she was still painstakingly freezing. "Gosh, it's colder than when we were in the artic fighting Beryl." Jupiter Knight on impulse bent down and touched his warm lips to Sailor Jupiter's deathly cold ones, putting some color into it. He kissed her deeply, pressing his body against hers and wrapped his arms around her. He rocked her slightly before letting go and parting. Color was in her cheeks when he looked at her again. "What was that for?" Sailor Jupiter asked. "Still cold?" "No. Thanks, I needed that." Sailor Jupiter said, feeling her blood once again warm in her veins. "So where are we?" Jupiter Knight asked, looking curiously at the scenery. The snowy white was so thick, it looked like they were in a very large room with ice all over it, since they couldn't see more than ten feet infront of them. Everything was a starch white, making them pop out of the scenery with their green suits. "They're gone too!" Luna shouted, her voice echoeing through the lengthy hallway. "Sailor Jupiter! Jupiter Knight! Answer us!" Sailor Mars shouted, hearing no answer. "They just dissapeared like Nephryte and Mako," Hera said. "Who's next?" Sailor Venus asked, looking around edgily. "Do you think we should go on?" Sailor Mercury asked. She didn't like the idea of going any further before learning what happened to the rest of the group. "There's no way back," Jadeite said. Glancing back, he saw that the way they had come from dissapeared. Replacing it was a lengthy hallway that seemed to go on forever without an end. "Try opening one of the doors," Artemis said. Jadeite turned a silver knob of the doors lining the hallway. It turned, but nothing else happened. "Fake doors," he spit out. "Let's just go on. It's bound to lead somewhere," Sailor Mars said, holding her head up high. "Look, this one opens." Sailor Mercury said, holding open a different door. All of them looked inside, expecting to see a raging inferno, judging on the smoke seeping through it. Instead, it was calm forest land, almost peaceful. "Should we go in?" Sailor Venus asked. "Either that or walk further down the hall," Jadeite said, stating all their choices. They decided to go through the door and see where that led them. Sailor Venus went in first, followed by the others. The three cats, the last to go in jumped when the door slammed shut behind them. "No where to go except forward," Luna said, nodding toward where the door use to be. "Doesn't this remind you of some badly filmed movie?" Sailor Mars asked. Whatever they were doing was giving her a deja vu feeling deep in her chest, like she's done it before, but she doesn't know the result. "Yeah, like we've gone through this before." Sailor Mercury agreed. She raised her nose up in the air, sniffing the quaint aroma. "What's that smell?" "Smells like something burnt," Jadeite said, listening to his sharp nose. "More like something sweet burning in the oven," Sailor Mars said. "Let's follow the smell and see if it leads us anywhere," Hera said, already following her nose. "Mako, are you okay?" Nephryte asked, rubbing his side, which he just happened to land on. What he fell on wasn't exactly breaking his fall. It felt like a brick road. He opened his eyes, then foudn that it wasn't much help. Everything was completely dark. He had never experienced anything that dark before. It was an eerie unatural dark, like something was sucking the light out of the atmosphere. "Mako?!" Nephryte called again. He felt around in the dark until he touched something warm. He scooted to her while holding her hand. "Are you okay?" He asked again, wishing of all times that she would say something. No answer. In the dark, he couldn't see if she was nodding or shaking her head or anything else for that matter. Nephryte sighed, "Makoto, I know you can talk. Please talk to me. How will I know if you're okay? Say something, please?" He begged her. "I'm fine," Makoto said softly. Nephryte almost jumped past the roof, if there was one. He never expected her to listen to him and actually say something. He was just saying all that to make sure he didn't lose his mind in the dark. That was his worse fear. Of being so long in the dark that your mind just suddenly snaps. "Okay, you *can* talk. That's a start. Why didn't you say anything before?" Nephryte asked. "Nothing worth saying," Mako said simply. Her voice was so much like Lita's, but still so different. She had a kind of accent, not from any region, but more like it was taught. Her words, although soft were perfectly pronounced and enunciated. "Can you see anything?" Nephryte asked. Maybe during the fall, his eyes had been knocked senseless and it wasn't really this dark. "It's dark," Mako said. She stood up silently. Nephryte stood after her, still holding her hand. It would be murder if he lost her in the dark and would take a really long time to look for her. "Four down, more to go." Serenity laughed, gazing into an orb like thing that looked like Queen Beryl's. "You can't do this!" Serena shouted to her inside her mind. "And who's going to stop me?" Serenity asked, "I know all of your weeknesses. I am the supreme ruler of the whole universe and once again, I will resume my rightful place." "Your rightful place isn't in *my* body!" Serena said. No matter how much she struggled, she couldn't kick Serenity out of her body. "Wrong, it is *my* body now. And don't tell me you're not enjoying watching all your friends squirm." Serenity laughed again, the laugh creating more ice around the large room. "Let's see. Who will go next? I believe Mars and Jadeite. Yes, it looks like it's their time for excitement." Serena cowered in the corner of her own mind, trying to think silently of how to gain control of her body. "How long have we been walking?" Jupiter Knight asked Sailor Jupiter. The cold was turning his nose pink and he could feel at the tips of his ears how cold it really was. "I don't know. Maybe a few minutes, a few hours?" Sailor Jupiter said. She took one step forward, not really thinking about where shew as putting her foot, but before she stepped down, Jupiter Knight pulled her back. Losing her balance, she toppled backwards and brought Jupiter Knight down with her. They lay there ontop of each other for a while, catching their breaths, watching as the mist escaped their lips. "Careful where you step," Jupiter Knight said, sitting up and showing her where her foot might have been. It was a twelve by twelve puddle of boiling clear liquid. "What's that?" Sailor Jupiter asked, watching the liquid slowly boil away into a gas. She wondered how it could actually boil at this temperature. Jupiter Knight plucked a long hair off of her head. "Ow, what are you doing?" Sailor Jupiter asked. She watched him dip half of the hair into the liquid and bring it out. He held it sideways. She was surprised that it lay straight across like a really thin toothpick. Jupiter Knight tapped the strand of hair softly and it shattered like glass. "Liquid nitrogen," Jupiter Knight said, confirming his guess. He got up and pulled her to her feet. They walked carefully over the puddle and now kept a close eye on where they were placing their steps. "Look over there," Sailor Jupiter pointed infront of them. Instead of the crumbled ice and half snow they were already use to walking on, she saw a flat surface, stretching out as far as she could see. "Ice?" Jupiter Knight asked. "Looks like it," Sailor Jupiter said. The surface looked more like a frozen sheet of glass, except for it's misty white color. She looked down at her own boots. Tentively, she placed the toe of her boot on the surface and tapped it. Solid enough to hold both their weights, she calculated. "We'll need to skate across it." Jupiter Knight gave a hrmph, "I don't think we have skates in stock right now." "Skates!" Sailor Jupiter shouted. Suddenly, her boots rose higher about two or three inches with a thin metal bar on the bottom. Her boots had transformed into skate just for the occasion. Jupiter Knight's shoes did the same, but he was caught off surprise and lost his balance. He fell onto the crunchy snow. He looked up at Sailor Jupiter with a weary eye, "Next time, warn me when you're going to do that." "Stay here. I'll go skate around and see how far this thing is first," Sailor Jupiter said, patting his head from above. "Be careful!" Jupiter Knight called to her, but she was already sliding gracefully on the ice. He watched as her tall body moved across the ice with fluidy and grace he knew he would never aquire even if he skate his whole life away. In a jiffy, Sailor Jupiter came back, her nose pink from the biting frost. She stepped back onto the snow he was still sitting on and sat down with him. He waited for her to catch her breath before asking, "So what did you find?" "It goes on forever. It's too far. I went out pretty far, then came back before I lost the way back. We'd better go together." She got up and held out a hand for him. Jupiter Knight shook his head fiercely, "No way. I don't skate." Sailor Jupiter then remembered. She and Ken had never gone to the skating rink together before and she had never even heard him mention anything about skating. She shrugged, "Can't skate?" "No," Jupiter Knight stated bluntly. Sailor Jupiter pulled him onto his feet, "Well, I guess you're going to have to learn." Jupiter Knight stood wobbly on the skates, wondering how she stood so naturally on such thin railing. "You have to stand on the balls of your foot," Sailor Jupiter instructed, holding him up. His arm was draped over he shoulder and he was leaning on her for support. Jupiter Knight straightened out, trying not to crush her if he fell. "I'm going to let go okay?" Sailor Jupiter said, slowly moving away. He swayed a little to the left, but his face didn't hit the ground. He was now rocking back and forth dangerously. "Can you walk?" Sailor Jupiter asked. Jupiter Knight raised one foot and placed it over the other. He was surprised that he had actually taken four whole steps before falling. Luckily, Sailor Jupiter caught him before he sprawled into the snow. "Not bad. Let's get you on the ice," Sailor Jupiter said, tugging him by the sleave. "The ice?! Won't that hurt more if I fall?" Jupiter Knight asked, terrified that he was going to get onto the ice so soon. "It's easier on ice. As soon as you get the momentum going, it's harder to fall." Sailor Jupiter assured him. She got onto the ice first, then waited for him. Jupiter Knight took a shaky step onto the ice, trying not to let the leading foot slide away before he got the other foot on. As soon as both feet were on the ice, he was surprised to see he was moving. Sailor Jupiter was holding his hand infront of him and tugging him as she skated. "Come on Kennie, you don't expect me to pull you the whole way, do you? Move your feet." Sailor Jupiter urged. Obeying, Jupiter Knight moved his feet, trying to match her strides. Soon, it was much easier and he didn't have to rely on her pulling him anymore. Sailor Jupiter skated ahead, scouting the area for any sign of anyone else. It was deathly quiet, except for the breathing of the two of them and the quite sounds of Jupiter Knight stumbling after her. "How are you holding up back there?" Sailor Jupiter called to him. "Better," Jupiter Knight said. He really thought he had the skating thing down. He could almost match Sailor Jupiter's speed, although not with her grace and agility. Abruptly, he heard her gasp infront of him, although he couldn't see too much because of the blinding fog. "Sailor Jupiter? What happened?" He asked, skating slower, wondering where she went. First, he saw a green blur through the fog infront of him, which was her, and now she just dissapeared? "ac-k! (cough)" he heard her struggling and what seemed to be splashing sounds. "Lita?" Jupiter Knight called again, skating faster to the sound. More splashing noises, then he heard Sailor Jupiter's voice, "Ju-p (cough)....Knigh (cough.....watch....(splash)....out." Jupiter Knight raced as fast as he could to the sound of her struggling. He got close enough to see her flailing helplessly in some sort of puddle. He quickly skated over to her and laid down on his stomach. He grabbed one of her flailing hands and pulled her up as fast as she could. Her arms were freezing and he was surprised they didn't snap off from the cold. It was no wonder why no one could even dare try to swim in that pool even if they weren't so alone. Sailor Jupiter sat there hugging herself and rocking back and forth. Her teeth were chattering so hard they could have chipped off. Her hair was hanging limply in her face and her clothes were drenched in freezing water. "C-c-c-cold," Sailor Jupiter chattered, still rocking herself. Jupiter Knight took off his jacket she was wearing and laid it out on the snow. He knew that she should be wearing those wet clothes or else she might catch her death. "Maybe you should transform out of that and into your normal clothes. They're too wet." Jupiter Knight advised. Sailor Jupiter shook her head. "What do you mean no? You want to freeze to death out here?" Jupiter Knight asked, putting an arm around her cold shoulders and rubbing some warmth into them. "There a p-p-passa-a-ge in t-t-here. I s-saw it. It leads (sneeze) somewhere." Sailor Jupiter pointed to a dark spot in the pond where a passage could barely be detected. Jupiter Knight looked around them. Infront was vaguely, a wall which was too steep to climp. On all other sides were large mounds of snow, which undoubtly led nowhere if they dug through it. Behind them was the ice they slid there with. "I-i-t's the on-l-l-y w-way," Sailor Jupiter chattered. "How long is the passage?" Jupiter Knight asked. It was too hard to tell from there, "We can't hold our breaths forever." "D-don't k-know," Sailor Jupiter said. She stood up, shook the chill off her body and jumped back in, much to his surprise. "Jupiter!" Jupiter Knight called, but she couldn't hear him under the water. He touched the still damp jacket left on the snow and it dissapeared into his interdimensional pocket. He jumped in after her, almost dying from the shock of the cold water. He forced his eyes, already stinging in the cold water to open and followed Sailor Jupiter, who was at least ten feet infront of him. Jupiter Knight, the much stronger swimmer caught up to her in three quick strokes and swam next to her. He knew that they would be able to only last a couple more seconds before finding air. Luckily, looking up, he saw the surface. They had ducked out of the pool with the ice and were in some underground lake. He pointed up to Sailor Jupiter and swam up. Coughing, choking and gasping for air, the two of them broke into the surface. Jupiter Knight pulled himself up onto the rocky shore and took a deep breath. Sailor Jupiter crawled up beside him, still out of breath. "If you don't think about it, it doesn't feel that cold." Jupiter Knight told her. "Where are we now?" Sailor Jupiter asked, looking around. The roof of the cave was full of stalagcites and limestone deposits. The walls of the cave, full of silt and other minerals. "Looks like there's a way out," Jupiter Knight pointed to a cavern inside the cave, slightly lighted by daylight, which shone from ahead from a whole on the ceiling. "Let's go," Sailor Jupiter said, not as cold anymore. "Hello? Anyone here?" Sailor Venus called out. Somehow, Sailor Mercury and she had seperated from the group in the forest and they were now alone walking through what seemed like the same trails over and over again. "I think we're lost," Sailor Mercury said quietly. "No, Mercury, don't tell me we're lost. I hate it when you say that." Sailor Venus said. She cupped a hand over her mouth and shouted, "Sailor Mars! Jadeite! Luna? Artemis? Hera? Anybody can hear me?" Sailor Mercury put a hand on Venus's shoulder, "No one can hear us." "We're not lost. It's them who are lost," Sailor Venus said, confident that they were going the right way to who knows what. "I wish that my computer would work here," Sailor Mercury said, staring at the snowy blank screen she held infront of her. "Let's go that way, I think it's another trail," Sailor Venus pulled Sailor Mercury, sure that they were going to find Serenity first. "Look, you're right. I think I see something up ahead!" Sailor Mercury said. She could see the very top of a cave. A very large cave with a narrow opening. "I bet she's in there," Sailor Venus said. Suddenly, three furry objects jumped infront of her. "Mercury Bubbles!" Sailor Mercury shouted, acting on instinct. Everything around them fogged over and they could see the shapes infront of them. Those things had to be at least seven feet tall with a lot of hair. "Venus Crescent Beam...Smash!" Sailor Venus shouted, pointing to the nearest thing. Sailor Mercury dove quickly into a tree, caught hold of a branch and climbed up there. The hairy thing that lunged for her ran into a large boulder and sat confused. "Mercury Ice Bubbles!" Sailor Mercury shouted and shot beneath her. It froze the beast into a popsicle and even some of the grass around it. "Where's the other one?!" Sailor Venus shouted, "I saw three!" "Behind you!" Sailor Mercury warned. Sailor Venus turned around too late. She felt the dread as the beast lunged at her, the gut feeling that it was too late. The breath was knocked out of her and she fell onto the floor in pain. "Venus!" Sailor Mercury jumped down from the branch she was perched on and helped her friend up. The beast had already run away into a safe place into the greenery. "I'm alright. Just surprised," Sailor Venus said, getting up. She brushed some grass from her skirt and continued forward, "C'mon, we need to find the others." "Venus! Where are you? Mercury?!" Sailor Mars called frantically. She turned and twisted her neck, trying urgently to locate her lost friends. "Where are they?!" Suddenly, without warning, something jumped out of the bushes. Sailor Mars leaped back, taking her defense stance and getting her attack charged up. Jadeite stood next to her, about to launch something at whatever it was that jumped out. "What *is* that?" Sailor Mars asked, twisting her pretty red lips in disgust. Perched infront of them was something like a seven foot wolf standing on it's hind legs. It's ugly yellow eyes looked at them threatingly. Frost dripping from it's overbite and claws outstretched menacingly. In half a second, it sprung toward the red scout. "Mars Firebird Charge!" Sailor Mars shouted, unleashing her bird of fire. It flew toward wolf thing and scorched it's long overgrown fur to the skin. A terrible hissing followed. The half burned beast lurched again for her. Jadeite threw his hand up, throwing a force of energy, sending the animal back. "Mars Celestial Fire surround!" Sailor Mars shouted. That attack wiped out the beast into a fine dust. "Good job," Luna said, stepping up from under the fallen branch she was hiding in. Artemis and Hera followed, jumping down from nearby trees. "Where *are* they?!" Sailor Mars asked, almost to tears. "We'll find them," Jadeite said, holding Mars's hand in comfort. He squeezed it affectionately and pulled her forward, "We better keep moving. Who knows how many more of those are hiding around here. We have to be careful." Sailor Mars nodded, determined not to fall apart, "We have to find all of them." Luna and the other two cats hopped on another branch and walked, half hidden in the thick leaves. "Do you think we should go in?" Sailor Venus asked, indicating the cave. "It's the only place to go," Sailor Mercury answered. Again, three furry smaller figures leapt infront of them. Sailor Venus jumped into an attack stance and got ready to shoot her beam. "Stop! Venus, it's us." Luna's voice called out. They looked more carefully and saw that it was indeed Luna. Behind her were Artemis and Hera. "Luna! Where are Mars and Jadeite?" Sailor Mercury asked, scooping the black cat up and hugged her. "They're over there. I'll go get them. I think we should go into the cave." Artemis said, "You guys stay here while I go get them." Obeying, Mercury, Venus, Hera and Luna stood in their spot, waiting for Artemis. In a couple of minutes, Sailor Mars rushed forward from the brush and looked releived. "I thought you guys were going to be gone like the others!" Sailor Mars said, hugging the two scouts. "But the others-" "They're in the cave, I can feel it." Sailor Venus said. "What are we waiting for, let's go in." Sailor Mars said. They all dissapeared into the dark of the cave... "Stop," Jupiter Knight said, holding a hand behind him to stop Sailor Jupiter. She stopped abrupty behind him, almost walking into him. She peered over his shoulder at why they had stopped. It was so dark, the farthes she could see was five feet infront of them. "What's wrong?" "Only way out is...down," Jupiter Knight pointed to the floor. There, it sloped narrowly down into a whole in the cave. The floor, almost like a tube in a water park dissapeared into another cavern into too dark to see. "What's down there?" Sailor Jupiter asked. Jupiter Knight picked up a lemon sized rock and dropped it into the whole. With a clatter, the rock fell and they never heard when it hit the bottom. Jupiter Knight sat on the floor right above where it sloped down. "What are you doing?" Sailor Jupiter asked. "Only way is down," Jupiter Knight repeated. "But we don't know what's down there!" Sailor Jupiter said. "And since when had that stopped you?" Jupiter Knight asked, smiling encouragingly at her. He held his hand out for her and she sat behind him, clamping her legs around his waist. "Okay, let's go." Sailor Jupiter said, her voice quavering. "Okay, here go!" Jupiter Knight said. The two of them slid at an almost verticle drop down into the dark cavern, where the humidity was almost at a hundred percent. The whole way down, Sailor Jupiter was screaming and the echo made it seem louder than it was. Then, Jupiter Knight felt that it was leveling off. They were no longer falling as steeply, but it was just about the angle of a slide, falling slowly, sliding on the cold limestone slide. "Sailor Jupiter, your tiarra. Do the light thing. It's dark, can't see." Jupiter Knight said, thankfully she had stopped screaming in his ear. Sailor Jupiter nodded, and willed her tiarra to produce some sort of light. Suddenly, it came on, illuminating a greem beam, like a miner's hat infront of them. Jupiter Knight saw something ahead of them. Looked pretty low. Low enough to take half of their heads off, "Duck!" Both of the ducked to the side in time to save their heads. The large stalagcite was so close Sailor Jupiter could feel it touch the short hairs on her neck. "We'd better be caaaaarrreeeeefulllll!" Jupiter Knight started, but it ended in a yell since the slope they were sliding down had suddenly gone down, sending them to an almost verticle drop again. He could feel water trickling down with them, water so bitingly cold, just touching it made his blood freeze. Behind him, he could hear Sailor Jupiter's teeth chattering loudly and he could see his breath clearly infront of him. He could feel Sailor Jupiter shivering behind him, with his own shivering. Then, it leveled out again, but they were still going at a high speed. He would estimate they were going as fast as sixty miles an hour. More water dripped from the roof of the cave, some even in small rivers down the walls next to them. The light from Jupiter's tiarra wasn't doing much good, since they could only see what it was aimed at. It wasn't until two seconds before the long limestone slide ended before Jupiter Knight noticed they were suspended in mid-air. A quick picture flashed by, a cartoon of Wiley Coyote running past the edge of the cliff, just standing on air until he looked down, then he fell. Jupiter Knight couldn't feel anything beneath them. He didn't look down, thinking that maybe if he didn't look down, they wouldn't plummet to their deaths. He turned slowly, seeing where Sailor Jupiter was. She was right behind him, half ontop of him. Her mouth was open, getting ready to scream. The sensation of falling at such a high altitude was clearly something different. Sailor Jupiter didn't feel like she was falling. It felt as if they were floating up, only with a slight breeze from below. A look at the cave around her, flashing quickly by her told her indeed, she was falling. The initial splash as Jupiter Knight fell into the deep pool of water wasn't what surprised him. It only distracted him momentarily from the cold. The bitingly burning cold water that seemed to scorch through his clothes, stinging his eyes, invading his nose, threatening to choke out his lungs. His limbs were numb, his mind disoriented. Falling in, beside Jupiter Knight, Sailor Jupiter splashed into the icy pool. She had never felt such coldness before. They turned her body to ice, inside and out. Her mind was being frozen, not being able to function properly. She fratically swam up, or down, in whichever direction her body was pointing. She needed air. The hurried movements used up her oxygen and she was searching for more. She felt disoriented, not being able to tell which way was up. Something pulled at Sailor Jupiter's feet. She kicked it away in all the hysteria, continuing to swim her own way to infinity. She no longer swam for the air, she swam for the comfort of being at the surface again. Whatever had a hold of her ankle pulled her hard. Hard enough to somehow turn her to him. Sailor Jupiter saw the blurry face of Jupiter Knight through the cold water, in the stinging, the hurting, the numbness, she saw him. Wrapping an arm around her, Jupiter Knight pulled her laborously with him toward the surface, which he miracously located with all the air bubbles blocking most of his vision. Inch by inch, they made their way up to the surface until finally, he could reach out his hand, out of the cold water. Both their heads bobbed up, gasping frantically, half drowned by the coldness. Sailor Jupiter, with a strong hold on Jupiter Knight's belt was able to stay afloat without treading too much water. Jupiter Knight shook his head, trying to get rid of the strong ringing in his ear. The cold was subtlely wearing out his mind. He knew they should get out of the water or else. One word came to his mind: hypothermia. He treaded water, turning around and around, with Sailor Jupiter's knuckles digging into his skin. Reaching under the water, he pried her fingers off his belt, and she clenched his hands, digging into his palm with her nails painfully. "Lita, let go!" Jupiter Knight said sternly. "Can't. Can't swim. Not too well..." Sailor Jupiter gasped. Her head bobbed above the water, looking pale white, like shoe polish. "Yes you can! Just let go. You know how to swim," Jupiter Knight said. "C-c-cold. Forgot. Made m-me forget." Sailor Jupiter said. "Tread water, Sailor Jupiter." Jupiter Knight ordered, not liking the tone he was using, but knowing that she needed to swim on her own or they wouldn't pull through. In the pale moonlight, Jupiter Knight searched through the dim pool, looking for the nearest shore. Next to him, Sailor Jupiter, swimming better than before chattered. Her hair was plastered to her face, her eyes so pale green he was afraid the cold had gotten to it. he asked himself. Looking up, at a small whole where the moonlight seeked through, he knew it was. The light, too pure and white to be from the sun. As if directing him, the beam of moonlight landed on a ledge, so far off he had not noticed it before. But he saw that it was the closest, maybe the only way out of the cold. He could no longer feel anything past his waist. The tips of his fingers were stinging. He felt tired, he wanted to sleep, but he knew, that it was because of the extremely cold water. He turned back around to Sailor Jupiter, who's teeth were banging so hard he was surprised they didn't chip off. He didn't notice how hard his teeth were chattering or how much his body was complaining to the cold. Face to face with Sailor Jupiter, he looked at her, looking for any sign of her body not working. She didn't look too good, but at least she was still on the surface. "See t-t-that over t-t-t-there?" Jupiter Knight pointed to the ledge where they could manage to hoist themselves up to if they could make it there. Sailor Jupiter nodded. "We're going to swim there okay? Then it won't be too cold." Jupiter Knight said. He pulled her hand, which felt like a lump of ice. They started swimming toward the ledge, which was about a football stadium away from them. "C-c-cold," Sailor Jupiter said, stopping and rubbing her face with her cold hands. "I know. But we c-can't stop now. K-k-keep swimming. It will k-k-keep us warm. Alm-m-most there." Jupiter Knight said, holding out his hand for her again. "N-n-o. T-t-tired. Want to s-sleep." Sailor Jupiter said, floating now on her back. "Sailor J-j-j-jupiter! You c-can't give up now! We have to k-k-keep moving or else we'll be two ice cubes." Jupiter Knight said, pulling on her deathly cold arm now. "You g-g-go. I c-c-an't keep on m-m-m-uch longer. T-t-too tired. I c-c-can't f-f-feel my legs. Frozen." Sailor Jupiter said, her voice sounding far away. "If you don't want to swim anymore, I'll s-s-tay with you. We can s-sleep t-t-together." Jupiter Knight said, seriously. He knew that would get her going. "N-n-o. I'll go w-with you." Sailor Jupiter said finally, swimming beside him. Both of their bodies felt as if cutting through large chunks of ice. The cold seemed to squeeze the airs out of their lungs, not permitting them to breath. Halfway there, both were gasping like they had run ten miles in the sun. But it was cold. Colder than death. When Jupiter Knight knew he couldn't go another stroke, his hand struck solid. He raised his head, seeing that they ahd finally reached their ledge. He achingly hoisted himself up, on his stomach and pulled Sailor Jupiter up, who was just a little behind him. Both of them sat there, leaning against the wall. It was not much warmer than the water here. The cold air was stinging his nostrils and his eyes felt as if all the liquid had been dried out with a blow dryer. Sailor Jupiter, curled up in a little ball next to him closed her eyes. Her teeth still chattering painfull loud. "Sailor Jupiter! What are you doing?!" Jupiter Knight demanded, yanking her up into a sitting position. "Not in w-water any more. T-t-take short nap." Sailor Jupiter said drowsily. The nap sounded like heaven to him, but he knew if he did that a nap, soon, he would *be* in heaven. The cold was wearing them down, he knew and that if they fell asleep, it would be the end of them. "Sailor Jupiter, don't go t-to sleep. I know it's c-c-cold. We have to find the ot-t-thers. L-l-oook, we can go through there. It m-m-m-ight be warm in there." Jupiter Knight pointed to an opening, with some more bright light showing through it. "C-c-cold," Sailor Jupiter stuttered, arms around herself. Jupiter Knight got up, his legs complaining, but the numbness was gone. In place was total fatigue. He pulled Sailor Jupiter up, with the last of his strength to a standing postion and leaned against the wall. He held her in his arms, trying to stop her shivering by covering her arms with his, which was still cold, but at least warmer than hers. He summoned his jacket, which he hoped was dry by now. It came and he wrapped it around her, rubbing her upper arms until she finally stopped her shivering. "Ready to g-go?" Jupiter Knight asked, indicating the opening which was glowing still. "K-k-ay," Sailor Jupiter said. They held hands, still cold, but not stinging anymore and started for the opening, which seemed to be enticing them with the warm light. "It's getting lighter," Nephryte said, holding tight onto Mako's hand. They had been walking for the past hour aimlessly in the dark. He was surprised they had not run into anything since they were only walking forward. The floor had been unusually flat, not a boulder or stone or crack or bumb anywhere. True, it wasn't as dark anymore. They seemed to be walking toward some sort of light. A light beckoning them closer. Like moths attracted to a flame, they drifted closer and closer toward the light. After a couple more minutes of walking, Nephryte saw what the light was. It was some sort of white glowing orb, in the middle of a large room, the size of the colleseum. The room, looking around, he saw was black. The walls made of glass, so pitch black and the floor, black marble. They were at the opening of the tunnel they had miracously walked out of. He turned around, seeing the dark and frightening tunnel they had come from. In the middle of the room, with her back toward him was a woman. The woman, who looked slender and graceful had an evil air to her. Long blonde pigtails in ridiculoud buns stood out in contrast to the pitch black gown she had on. She was standing infront of a throne that she had probably sat on before standing on and was holding something silver and glaring. Nephryte thought. He heard Mako gasp and cower behind him, digging her nails into his hand. She was hiding behind him, peering like a frightened animal over his shoulder. he thought. "Her" was Serenity. He could see that she had grown stronger. He could now see the differences that made Serenity and Serena stand apart. Serenity was standing royal like, threatening in her poise, her hands frozen in pose above the white orb that was luminating the room. Footsteps thundered through the room. He could hear the echoes of the footsteps coming from another corridor, much like the one they had emerged from. His eyes hurt from the light, after being for so long in the dark. He strained to focus on who was running out of the corridor across from his. From the judge of the footsteps, he could be certain it was a man. The first thing he saw was the white mask. The black blended in with the dark behind the running man. Finally, he emerged from the corridor, holding a rose in one hand, a cane in another. Nephryte thought. He wondered if he should go help him. He knew that it was impossible for Tuxeedo Mask to face against Serenity alone. "Stay here," Nephryte whispered to Mako. But she wouldn't let go of him. Her hands were firmly clamped on his. He pried her hands off, kissed her fingers and said more gently, "Stay here. I don't want you to get hurt. I'll come back for you, I promise." Just as he was about to take a step, everything happened at once. Three scouts, Mars, Mercury and Venus ran out of another corridor, next to the one Tuxeedo Mask came out of. They were followed by Jadeite and the three cats. Nephryte waited for Sailor Jupiter to come out, but his heart gave a lurch when he heard nothing more. Oddly, he was hurt that she had not come out, but it wasn't the same feeling he had when he saw Princess Jupiter in danger. He felt guilty for that, but he knew also, that he didn't love the Sailor Jupiter of the present, but he was in love with the Sailor Jupiter of the Silver Millenium. "So? No Sailor Jupiter? All for the better. Get ready to see your end, Sailor Scouts." Serenity finally spoke, her voice dripping with malice. The orb, as it turned out was just a part of the instrument she was now holding. Serenity held in her two hands, a two foot long silver handle thing connected to the white orb, no bigger than a volleyball. The white haze in the orb cleared, showing the Silver Crystal, floating in the middle of it. "The Golden Imperial Crystal! We need it!" Hera shouted out. Luna did a sumersault in the air and came up with the golden crystal. Sailor Mars carefully picked up the crystal and somehow projected it into the air, making it float right infront of her. "Everyone, focus your energy to it. It will transfer it into a power to defeat her!" Hera shouted the order. Out of the corner of her eye, she could already see Serenity charging up her Silver Crystal, getting ready to attack. "But Jupi-" Sailor Mercury said. "No time! Do it now!" Hera yelled. "Mars Star Power!" Sailor Mars said, pointing her hands toward the crystal. A strong beam of red power shot to it. "Mercury Star Power!" The blue beam shot steadily toward the crystal. Just as they were doing that, Serenity's crystal gave off a bright grey light, a laser going straight toward the Golden Crystal. The two beams clashed, fighting each other. "Venus Star Power!" Sailor Venus added. The beam from the Golden Crystal, which was at least five times as thicker as the Silver Crystal's laser flashed gold. The three cats could see the Silver Crystal gaining strength, pushing the golden beam of power further back. "Just hold on until the Jupiter's come!" Luna said, encouraging them. She just hoped they would come sometime soon. "Jadeite," Hera started. Even before she finished her sentance, Jadeite understood what he had to do. He pointed his hands out and lent his energy to the crystal. From nowhere, Nephryte appeared and did the same. They pushed further and further, but only gained about an inch. Serenity looked still strong and getting stronger. A pair of footsteps echoed from another corridor. Emerging from that one were the two Jupiters, drenched and shivering, but alive none of the less. They ran toward where everyone was huddled around the Golden Crystal. "Jupiter Star Power!" Sailor Jupiter shouted, instantly seeing what they were doing. "Jupiter Knight Power!" Jupiter Knight also shouted, knowing that she would need his energy too. "You think you are winning? How wrong you are!" Serenity laughed, her cold and chilling voice echoing and bouncing off the walls. Tuxeedo Mask, the last one not doing anything put his hands forward and shot out his energy. The beam ejecting from the Golden Crystal turned a pure and bright white, pointed at the orb Serenity was holding. "Her beam is too concentrated! That must be why she came here. To get the orb. It conducts her energy into a deadly laser. We can't do that with the Golden Crystal. We need something to conduct it too, or else we're finished!" Hera said, finally understanding what the orb was doing to the Silver Crystal. True, the Golden Crystal's energy was like a flashlight beam, while the Silver laser from Serenity's orb was cutting through rapidly. Suddenly, Mako ran toward them. Nephryte saw her, running to them and shouted, "Makoto! Stay back! You'll get hurt!." Mako didn't listen, but instead ran closer, stopped next to them, held her hands straight up into the air, crossed above her head and shouted three words that shocked everyone. "Jupiter Planet Power!" Her body spun so fast, she seemed like a tornado. When she stopped, standing before them was another Sailor Jupiter, almost the same outfit, only the bow had a irridescent glow and the bow in back had two long ribbons flowing from it. Instead of rose earrings, there were green hoops, linking small bright yellow thunderbolts. Everyone's jaw dropped a couple of feet at who was standing before them. Their eyes went back and forth from the two Jupiters, not believing their eyes. The Mako-Sailor Jupiter walked, her boots clicking on the floor toward the front of the Golden Crystal, which was still giving off the strong beam of energy. She looked at it, then at the sharp concentrated laser from the Silver Crystal. In a flash, that Mako-Sailor Jupiter walked directly infront of the Golden Crystal's beam, blocking it from touching the Silver beam for an instant, then it went through her back, to the palm of her hands, outstretched and pointed toward the Silver Crystal. Her body acted like the orb Serenity was holding, concentrating the energy into a fine laser like beam, which was quickly advancing toward the Silver Crystal. In half a second, the room erupted in bright golden light, like a spark, magnified a thousand times. Everyone flew back against the wall from the explosion that followed. "I'm finished!" Serenity shrieked, before being thrown backwards toward the throne she had been standing infront of. "I'm free!" Serena shouted, in her now free mind, free to roam, free think, free to move her aching limbs. All was deathly quite, not a thing stirred. Everyone still, no movement, like a tableau. ********************************************************************** Well, that's the end. Kind of left you hanging didn't I? I guess if you want to know who the heck Mako is (as if it isn't obvious), read the epilogue to follow, which will undoubtly explain all the mystery of this fiction. Thanks to: Lord Talon, whose always ready with a review, even some objections to this series. I know you didn't like the idea of it, but what do you think now that it's finished?
