Yes, the next chapter is out. I’m trying to update my stories by the oldest. This is sort of my favorite right now too. Thank you for the reviews. I don’t own the story though we’d all love to. I’m scared to think of what us otakus would turn it into…Well aside from my babbling all that’s left is to read the story. Chapter Two: Getting Dragged Back It was like looking at the grim reaper, that was how bad it was. Nanashi, the Queen’s Slayer was here… I finally found my voice, “You’re here…. you’re here to kill me.” The cloaked man threw back his hood revealing emerald eyes and brown hair in a bang. I’ve only seen him a handful of times, guarding the queen at important events, and he rarely went unhooded. ‘I’m not going out without a fight.’ Quatra seemed to sense my resolve so he unsheathed his sword and stood in front of me. Oh, so now he wanted to guard me. But I could take care of myself. I drew out my sword (it was still under my sundress). Quatra gave me that ‘don’t interfere’ look and I backed down. He was doing his job. “What do you want Trowa?” he asked. “I’m not here for you Quatra but I am authorized to kill you if you interfere,” Trowa said in his quiet voice. I’m not sure if it was a good thing but they seemed to know each other on a first name basis. “Why is it you’re here?” I interjected. They both turned their attention on me. “The Queen sent me,” he said. Ok, now this was getting frustrating. I already knew that and I told him. He looked at me with those emerald eyes and I knew he wasn’t happy with the mission the Queen sent him on. “Apparently Lord Goro didn’t deliver the message correctly because Queen Anadis said to come to court immediately. You are still here.” “She said she sought to mend the rift between us. I’ve lived at court long enough not to believe in that pile crap. Now tell me what the hell she really wants or we’ll settle this with swords! You trespass into my property demanding what you know I will never do,” I said. Then I panicked. Had I just challenged the Queen’s Slayer to a duel? No, I wasn’t that foolish. But Quatra’s grip on my wrist told me I had done something. Thankfully Trowa ignored it. “I do not know all of what my Queen motives are and what I do know I am sworn not to tell until you are safely at court. You understand that right, Lady Makoto?” he asked. I understood how finicky the Gods were when it came to oaths. Bad things happened if you broke them. I didn’t know what to say next. Nanashi was standing on my dining room floor and I had a million different questions, some were personal, but I was still too shell- shocked to say anything. Fortunately Quatra was the articulate one. “How can you guarantee Makoto’s safety? There are things at court who have tried to kill her before,” Quatra said. By the look in Trowa’s eyes he knew the ‘things’ were actually Relena and her Ravens challenging me to court duels, trying to kill me. “Queen Anadis promised your safety to Jupiter…”Trowa said in his quiet voice. I smirked. Aunt Anadis had a way with words. She had sworn my safety to court but after that I was basically screwed. Her protection would be off me and I would be the target of Relena’s attentions. But even that much was enough. Going home wouldn’t take long but since my location seemed to be known, Relena would have tried to finish the job she started since I was thirteen. But still…why didn’t she promise me protection at court? She probably knew what Relena had been doing to me. Or maybe…have things gotten that bad in court? I have been gone for three years and a lot can happen in that time… “What has changed on Jupiter?” I asked. “Things have become unsettled with the-” Trowa stopped himself as he was going to say something important. Then his mask of silence was back on his face. He would say no more about that. “What is we decide not to go?” Quatra asked. “I am to take Makoto by any means necessary.” A look of hurt crossed Quatra’s face. I was beginning to wonder about how their previous friendship had ended. My curiosity was at an all time high. I just had to go. I could take care of myself at court more or less, at least physically. I still needed work on the political part…Makoto Kino is no political machine. “Very well. Quatra and I will go with you tomorrow.” Trowa frowned when I mentioned Quatra. It looked like he wasn’t supposed to come. “Quatra goes or I don’t care what you do, I will not go. He is just about my only friend at court and my only bodyguard. Do you think I am stupid enough to return to that hellhole without protection? He was the reason I am not dead already!” I said. Trowa reluctantly agreed. “I guess I have nothing else to ask that I have permission to. Wait, what do you want to be called? Nanashi is not really a name. It means no name. Though I understand why Anadis wanted to call you that. It adds to your…mysteriousness. Queen’s Slayer is what the courtiers call you when you’re not there though I suppose you knew that. How about Trowa Barton? It is your real name and I-” I stopped as Quatra coughed politely. “You’re babbling Mako,” he said quietly. I blushed. “Well, lets go and eat then! Come on Quatra lets go set the table for three. You are staying right? Ok, that’s great. Quatra’s been complaining that I cook too much.” Quatra sighed and went to go set the table. I walked to the table as well. “Trowa,” Nanashi whispered to me as I passed him, puzzling me. “Call me Trowa,” he whispered in my ear. I nodded and walked off to fix the table. ‘Tomorrow’s trip is going to be interesting. Quatra will not talk out of politeness because there’s company and Trowa has to be in the conversation. Trowa won’t talk because he’s the strong silent type. That’s why he’s so good at his job. I swear I wouldn’t notice if he were there unless he says anything. And I can’t talk because I’m to nostalgic about home. This will be an interesting trip...’ ~*~*~*~*~ “…are you sure milady? Do you need anything else? Any more clothes, books…food! You need something surely. How about a hat? We can’t let you catch a cold. You could-” I cut Merle off before in mid sentence. She was an old motherly woman and if you didn’t stop her, you’d end up taking more then necessary. “We’re fine Merle. It’s you I should worry about. I don’t want to overburden you. Maybe-” this time it was her turn to cut me off. “I’m fine Lady Makoto.” We both laughed at that. She was the mother I never had and I would miss her most of all. I doubt that my “dear Auntie Anadis” would allow me back on earth for a while, if she even allowed me to live. It was like walking into a death trap but I have no choice with Trowa here to ‘escort’ me back. My white gelding, Lightning, was already loaded with all the necessities for a 4-hour trip to the capital’s inter-planetary portal. It also had a dress to wear for my unavoidable meeting with Anadis. The rest of our stuff would arrive the next day. Trowa said, in his usual quiet manner, that the Queen wanted us there yesterday. Can’t keep her “majesty” waiting. I mounted Lighting, who was unremarkable except for its amazing speed and stamina and unsettling eyes that changed all shades of green. It didn’t bother me. I saved him from the slaughterhouse. Nobody wanted to buy him because they thought it was some demon creature. As expected, I did. Relena used that to point out that I was in league with the demons, which nobody who knew me believed. Or at least those that tried to get to know me, which was preciously few. I don’t believe in any of that mumbo-jumbo. Lightning’s as gentle as a lamb…at least with me. Quatra was next to me on Sandrock, his tan horse that was freakishly strong and was almost big enough to be a warhorse for a knight. “Ready?” Trowa asked from atop his black horse, Nanashi (which made calling Trowa, Nanashi, quite unsettling when the horse answered). I nodded. We all rode bareback so he just signaled to his horse and was off. I looked at Quatra and realized he was supposed to take the rear. They never let me have any fun. Though I wonder what would happen if we were to be attacked…they probably wouldn’t allow me to fight even though I am nearly Quatra’s equal. “Oh well,” I sighed. But before I could so much as signal Lighting, I heard a soft whining. Looking down I saw my white wolf cub Sarien… ~*~*~*~*~ “You brought a dog,” Trowa said simply as we caught up with him. We slowed into a canter. “It’s not just any dog it’s my Sarien,” I said indignantly. The puppy peeked out from under my traveling cloak at its name. Trowa didn’t say anything else. He just raised Nanashi into a gallop. I, not one to be beaten, urged Lightning into a gallop. I heard Quatra sigh and reluctantly speed up as well. We were on the path to the nearest portal station that was in the Earth Kingdom’s capital, Golden City, more then four hours away. This was not quite as exciting as I expected. Maybe there’ll be robbers, or fires or something. In that case getting dragged back was fun. +++++++++++++++ That’s it for this week. It took me forever to type and edit because I originally had it on hard copy and I’m not the neatest person in the world so I had to play translator as well. Well, you either liked this chapter or you hated it. The next chapter introduces Relena…that should be enough incentive for half of you all to continue to read this. Ja ne
