She had to wait a week in order for it to arrive. And that meant one thing: She was going to have to sleep on the uncomfortable couch again tonight. Well, the couch had been comfortable...though it really wasn't comfortable to sleep on. It was much too small for Lita, and she fell right off it every few minutes. Needless to say, she didn't have a very pleasant night. That was why she was so eager to get a bed earlier this morning. But now, it was night. And she needed a place to sleep--besides the couch. Time to complain to Mrs. Kendra... Walking into the kitchen, she saw Mrs. Kendra reading a magazine of some sort. Time to take action. "Mrs. Kendra...may I have another place to sleep tonight? The couch is too small," she said. Mrs. Kendra pushed her reading glasses on the top of her head, and replied, "It is? I should've known. Ken complains about it too, whenever he has to sleep on the couch. He isn't that much taller than you. You can always sleep in his room." Lita's mouth hung slightly open. Sleep in a GUY'S room? More importantly a jock's? Hey, at least he probably wasn't that bad looking...maybe. "You sure he won't mind?" she asked. "No, not at all," Mrs. Kendra answered with a laugh. "Whenever we have guests over, we let them go to his room and he usually goes sleep over with a friend or on the couch. But trust me, he wouldn't mind at all." Lita was barely able to keep the wide grin off her face. Yes! She had never been in a guy's room before, yet slept in one. Looks like Mrs. Kendra wasn't going to be that bad of a foster mother after all. "Thanks Mrs. Kendra!" Mrs. Kendra acknowledged the thanks with a nod and resumed with her reading. Glancing around Ken's room, Lita suddenly wondered if she could actually sleep in this room. The pictures seemed to be all staring at her, and believe it or not, gave her chills. Never before had she gone to sleep in a room so full of pictures and magazine cutouts. She breathed in the cool air. Instantly, the musky aroma of a male being filled her nostrils. It wasn't that strong, just a light and faint scent of shaving cream and of the such. Fighting the urge to jump to jump into the bouncy-looking bed, she looked around some more. Maybe there were a couple of yearbooks around here? But, even if he did, how would she find it? It could be anywhere... Sighing, she plopped down on the blue and red-stripped coverlets of the bed. The bed was as bouncy as she thought it would be, and a small grin worked its way up her features. Jumping was another urge to fight. She could barely control the urge to jump, seeing if she could reach the ceiling--which she probably could. Ever since she was a child, she loved jumping on beds, especially if they were as jumpy as this one. Then she reminded herself about the little incident where she had hit her head and wasn't exactly aware of her growth quite yet. She closed her eyes and started thinking....thinking about how everyone would react to her at school...how did Ken look like...and stuff of the sort. After she finished thinking, she turned off the baseball-shaped lamp, and let sleep overcome her. *DING!! Welcome to the NFL game of the---* Lita's arm flew to the football alarm clock, and swung back on it, making it fly towards the closet. "Of all the alarm clocks..." she muttered. "It just had to be a football one..." Then she remembered that it wasn't her room, and the alarm clock wasn't hers. She lightly blushed in embarrassment and went to pick up the alarm clock. As she place the football alarm clock back on the table, she spotted her reflection in the mirror. Her hair was flying in almost every direction. She groaned. Looks like she was going to be a little late for breakfast... "Where did you learn how to cook, Lita? These pancakes are delicious!" Mrs. Kendra said, putting away the syrup, dishes, and utensils in the dishwasher. "Well...my mom...that is, before she died, taught me," replied Lita. Her voice cracked a little, but she quickly covered it up. "Hmm....do you want to go see Ami?" asked Mrs. Kendra, changing the subject to something more cheerful. "Wouldn't she mind if I just barge in without telling her?" Mrs. Kendra laughed. "Oh, no, no! I called her earlier today, and said she wouldn't mind at all!" Lita smiled. "So, can I go right now?" "Sure, just go right ahead. Her house is the light blue one, with some white." "Okay, bye!" Lita waved to Mrs. Kendra and headed out towards the door. "Ami," her mother called out. "Yes?" she asked, stepping down the elegantly designed marble stairs. "Lita's here to see you. In fact, she's here right now," Mrs. Anderson informed. Ami nodded slowly, and looked towards the living room. Sighing and wishing for a successful conversation with another human being, Ami said, "Hi Lita!" Did that come out too overly perky, she wondered. Lita stood up and turned towards Ami when she heard the greeting. "Hi. You're Ami, right?" "Yes," Ami replied. She was surprised at how tall Lita was, but pushed it off. Her green eyes were gleaming and she long brown hair tied in a high ponytail. She wore a light green t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans. Shaking out of her thoughts, Ami asked, "Do you want to stay here and talk or go to my room?" Lita, herself, was observing Ami. Her features were a little unusual, but Lita had surprisingly quickly adapted to them. Her dark blue eyes seemed too empty, and her short blue hair fitted the girl's feature. She mentally slapped herself when she noticed Ami was waiting for her response. "Sure, let's go to your room," Lita said. Ami nodded, and Lita followed up the stairs, looking at the pictures on her way up. One was a picture of Ami, the other one of her mother, and a man, her father probably. She led Lita up to a plain, ordinary looking room, everything too predictable, too ordinary. Everything matched perfectly, nothing clashed, and it was basically, a little dull. There were no clothes thrown carelessly on the bed, no papers or pens covering the desk, no nothing. Everything was in place. "Wow...everything's so...organized," Lita commented, glancing around. Ami smiled a little, and asked, "So, Lita, have you met anyone else around the neighborhood?" "No, just you. Why do you ask?" Lita asked curiously at Ami. "Oh, nothing," Ami said. In a quieter voice, she added, "You'll find out on Monday anyway." There was an awkward silence as the two just stared at something else, not talking to each other. After a full five minutes of silence, Lita broke it. "Do you have this yearbook of Seasons?" "Yes, they're right there in that drawer," Ami said, pointing at the small drawer next to Lita. "We were supposed to get them in June, but it seems like they had them made too soon. Some pages weren't even finished yet; so don't be surprised if you find half-finished pages or something. So we got them cheap this year." Ami chuckled. Lita laughed as she opened the drawer, and looked up Kendra, Ken, in hopes of finding out how he looks like. "Come on, where are you?" she asked herself. Flipping the pages, she finally spotted a Kendra, Ken. Near it, it read: NO PICTURE AVALIABLE. "Darn!" Lita exclaimed. She closed the yearbook and placed it back in the drawer. "What?" Ami asked. "There isn't a picture of Ken Kendra!" Ami smiled as Lita practically pulled her hair out of frustration. "Well, I can tell you about him, if you want to." Lita stopped pulling her hair and looked at the blue-haired girl. "Sure! I've been trying to figure out who he is!" "Well," Ami explained, "he has brown hair and dark blue eyes. He's one of the "big men" on campus; you'd notice him once you step in, though he doesn't exactly look like jock material. Actually, he isn't, it's just his friends. The pressure, friends, and being in high school. He actually, isn't that bad. Met him a couple times myself. " Lita smiled. Finally she got to know about this Ken character! About time too! As the day past, Lita and Ami talked about a lot of things. And by the end of the day, Lita considered Ami a friend and vice versa. Ami was cool, if not lacking in self-esteem and social life. But that was okay. "Bye, Ami, it's been nice talking to you!" Lita said, and she went back to Mrs. Kendra's house. Maybe the furniture was there, she hoped. But she then thought of the possibilities and with a sigh, sauntered into the house. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* So, how did you like it? Hate it? Either?
