Love Conquers All by: Sailor SwiftHeart Rated: PG *Chapter Seven: Love Conquers All* "Sir, calm down!" the doctor said, "Nobody said anything about pulling any plug. We are just saying that she needs more medical care than we can offer. We have the name of a clinic that specializes in this area. They can give her the care that we can't. There is room there and they will accept Lita as a patient. But you have to decide fast. Their beds go fast! The thing is, being that this is a special clinic, it's very pricey." the doctor explained. "No problem! I'll take care of the bill. She has given me much more that any amount of money can buy. It's the least I can do. I'll forever be in her debt." Ken declared, happily. He was more than happy to help Lita out. At least this way, his money would be put to good use instead of towards Cheryl's drug habit. So, the arrangements were made. Lita was taken to Los Angeles and Ken and Lita's parents followed soon after. The plan was she was going to stay at the clinic until she fully recovered. That was IF she ever woke up. They still weren't a hundred percent sure she would ever wake-up. She had a serious injury. Ken did a lot of thinking and crying. He realized that he NEVER cared so much for one person, ever in his whole life. He really needed her. He never had someone care so much about him. And Lita proved to Ken, over and over again, that she really DID care. The three of them visited Lita every day. Lita's doctor, Dr. Carter, was nice but strict. He had very strict rules, including only one visitor in Lita's room at a time. Also, visiting hours were very short. Dr. Carter believed that this helped his patients' recovery. Ken couldn't bare being away from Lita's side. He spent his visits talking to Lita and holding her hand. He told Lita of his dreams which, of course, all included her. He kissed her forehead and swept the fallen hair off of her face. "Oh, Lita!" Ken said, quietly, weeping at her side, "Please wake-up! I need you so much. Please.... wake-up..." Ken clung to Lita with more love and despair, his tears wetting her skin. He sobbed for all that had happened and all that he'd lost. He especially cried for Lita and all that she was going through. In between sobs, Ken heard mumbling. He looked up, amazed to find Lita starting to stir. "Lita? Lita?" Ken asked. She very slowly opened her eyes. "Ken?" she mumbled, "Where.... where am I?" "Oh dear. You were in a car accident, Lita. You were hit head on by a drunk driver. Don't you remember?" Ken asked. "It all.... happened so fast." Lita said, still a bit groggy, "Ken... I can't... I can't feel my legs..." "Well, that doesn't matter for now. What's important is that you're awake." Ken said, avoiding the question. He didn't have the heart to tell Lita that she may never walk again. "How long have I been here?" Lita asked. "You've been unconscious for three weeks now. " Ken told her. "Oh my God!" Lita exclaimed, taken aback by the new information. "I'm so sorry, Lita!" Ken said, "We are in L.A. at a special clinic where they are taking special care of you." he informed her. "Ken? Why did we have to meet that afternoon? I mean, I'm glad you wanted to see me, but why?" Lita asked. Ken chuckled. "I've been so pre-occupied that I almost forgot!" he laughed, "I wanted to tell you that I was and AM officially seperated from Cheryl!" "Oh Ken! I'm so happy for you!" Lita said, her happiness gleaming in her eyes, "That's wonderful news." Ken got up and embraced Lita as carefully as he could. She hugged him back with all the love in her heart. The next few days were quite strenuous and difficult. Lita was lucky to have Ken there for support. Lita had to strengthen her leg muscles. Ken held Lita the whole way through. If she fell, he was there to catch her. They spent more and more time together, growing closer than ever. Lita was laying on her bed one night, while Ken was sitting on the edge. He was being goofy and making Lita laugh as usual. Once Ken was serious, Lita looked deep into his eyes. "Oh Ken," she said, "I am so glad you are here. It means a lot to me. I'm grateful you called me that day." she paused, then blurted, "I love you, Ken!" "Oh God, I love you too!" Ken said. Both had tears in their eyes. Ken leaned over and placed his lips on Lita's. The kiss was moist from their salty tears. They both memorized each heavenly moment. They savoured each other's sweetness. They were so close, their lips looked welded together. They fit together perfectly. The kiss was interrupted by Dr. Carter. "Uh.... visiting hours are over." he said. Ken and Lita pulled away and both turned bright red. Dr. Carter closed the door to let Ken and Lita say goodnight. Ken leaned over and kissed Lita on the cheek. "Good night, my love." he said, whispering sweetly. "Goodnight." Lita whispered back. *** The next few days went by pretty fast. Lita still couldn't walk yet, but she was improving. Ken sometimes wondered if she would ever fully recover or be stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Either way, he didn't care. For he still loved her, no matter what. One afternoon, Ken, who was sitting in the lounge, got paged. He was told to go to the Rehabilitation Room right away. "Oh no!" he thought, "Lita must be in trouble!" He raced to the room as fast as he could. Lita was with the nurse. She was seated in a wheelchair, beside the parallel walking bars. She gave Ken a huge smile. The nurse looked very hesitant, but left the room. "Come here, Ken," Lita said. Ken walked forward. "That's far enough." Ken was almost at the parallel bars. "Bare with me for a sec." She slowly pulled herself out of the wheelchair. She took her legs out of the braces and placed them on the ground. She placed her hands on the bar and steadied herself. She dragged one foot ahead of herself and then the other. She cautiously took a few small steps, actually placing her whole foot firmly on the ground. The more steps she took, the stronger she got. She took bigger steps and was walking faster. Soon, she was walking in full steps, without the help of the bars. She walked over to Ken and threw her arms around him. "Oh Lita! That's wonderful! I am SO proud of you!" Ken said, lifting Lita off the floor and whirling her around in a warm embrace. "Oh Ken, I owe it all to you. You gave me the strength and courage I needed to recover. I heard you talking to me when I was unconscious. It was YOU that gave me the incentive to wake up. I love you, Ken." Lita said. "Not half as much as I love you!" Ken put Lita back down and placed his lips on hers. They stood together kissing one another, knowing that everything from then on was going to be perfect. The loved they shared was strong and could conquer anything. ***
