Love Conquers All by: Sailor SwiftHeart Rating: PG *Chapter Six: Good News, Bad News* "Well," Ken thought, "It may not be that bad. Who knows, it could be good news." Ken sure hoped so. He got ready and headed down to Reece's office. He was greeted by the secretary. "He'll be with you in a moment." she said. Ken took a seat and waited. Reece came out of his office a few minutes later and went over to Ken. He shook his hand. "Come-in," Reece said, leading Ken into his office. Reece closed the door after them. "Please, have a seat." Ken did so. "So what's the deal? What's the problem?" Ken asked. "Absolutely nothing! I've got some wonderful news for you. I sent your forms out as soon as our meeting yesterday was over and I already got a reply," Reece explained, "You really touched them. They automatically granted you a divorce. You are officially seperated from Cheryl!" Reece said. "What?" Ken asked, leaping to his feet in surprise. "Yep, you heard me. You are officially seperated from your wife. Congratulations!" Reece exclaimed. "Oh my God! You're kidding me! I can't believe this!" Ken said, unleashing tears. He had never been so happy in all his life. He couldn't believe he was truly and honestly seperated. He grabbed Reece and embraced him in a hug. Reece laughed. "Thank-you, Reece! You have done so much for me, I'll never forget it and I'll never forget YOU, my friend!" Ken expressed. He couldn't wait until he got back to the hotel so he could call Lita. Ken got this idea to surprise Lita in person. First, he'd call her and ask her to meet him somewhere. "Hi, Lita," Ken said, once he got a hold of her, "Can you meet me somewhere? I really need to see you." "What's up?" Lita asked. It was not like Ken to be so mysterious. "I just really need to see you." Ken repeated. "Well, I get off in another hour. How about I meet you at McDonald's?" Lita suggested. "Great! I guess I'll see you around three." Ken said, "See you then!" Ken was so excited. He couldn't wait to see Lita again. He planned on giving her the biggest bear hug one could imagine. Ken waited patiently at the hotel until a quarter to three. He decided to go the restaurant a bit early. Ken became anxious once it reached three o'clock. Ken waited and waited. Pretty soon, it was three thirty and there was no sign of Lita. Then forty minutes passed, then fifty. Pretty soon, an hour had passed. It was now four o'clock. Ken immediately called her office. The phone rang off the hook. Ken tried to convince himself that she was on her way, but it was no use. He was really worried. He hopped into his car and decided to look for her. It wasn't until he was driving down the highway, when he spotted it. There were ambulances and fire trucks and police cars. There had been an accident. Ken realized that that was the reason Lita was late. Traffic was backed up for miles. Ken pulled over. He decided to see if he could help. He glanced over at the wreckage and gasped. He saw a horrible sight. There was blood and glass everywhere. Two firemen were taking a victim out of the car, while the other firemen were at another vehicle. "Do you need a hand with her?" Ken asked, rushing over to the two firemen. "Yea, grab her feet and help us get her onto a stretcher." One of them said. He did so. The woman's face was covered with blood. Actually, the blood was all over. Ken looked at her face and almost died. "OH MY GOD!!!!" Ken shouted. "What?" the fireman frantically asked. "OH MY GOD! IT'S LITA!" Ken screamed, looking down at Lita's face. He could see her pain and he cringed. "Oh God, I KILLED HER!" Ken cried. The firemen looked at each other, with puzzled looks on their faces. "It's all my fault! Oh God!" Ken went on, "I did this to her!" They put Lita on a stretcher and lifted her into the ambulance. The paramedics got into the ambulance and closed the doors. They drove off, leaving Ken standing there in horror. "Sir?" a policeman asked, going over to Ken, "What did you mean when you said you caused this accident? The cause was a drunk driver and he was killed instantly." "I am the reason she was out here." Ken said. "Who?" the policeman asked. "The woman driving the blue sports car." Ken said, "I killed her!" "Hold on a sec, she's not dead. She's unconscious but she's still alive. The ambulance took her to the hospital." he informed Ken. For some reason, Ken couldn't believe him. It took a long time for the policeman to convince Ken that Lita wasn't dead. He got into his car and drove to the hospital as fast as his car would take him. Tears blurred his vision. It took Ken forever to reach the hospital. Once he did finally get there, he immediately hounded the nurses station to hear about Lita's condition. They kept hesitating when they had to answer Ken's questions. They kept telling him to sit in the waiting room until they had more news. After persisting for a while longer without any luck, Ken finally listened. He sat with his head in his hands, crying. He didn't know how long he'd been sitting there, until a nurse approached him. "Sir?'' she asked. Ken looked up. "Oh dear Lord! Is she dead?" Ken asked, staring up into the nurse's eyes. "No, she's no dead. She is still unconscious. Also, she has some broken bones in her spine. Unfortunately, she might never walk again." she told him. "Can I see her?" Ken asked. "Only for a moment." she said. Ken jumped up and followed the nurse to Lita's room. She opened the door for Ken and he walked in. "Oh God!" Ken gasped, immediately rushing to Lita's bedside. He covered her face with salty, wet kisses. She didn't respond. She had tubes coming out everywhere. Ken pulled up a chair and sat down. He kept her limp hands in his the whole time. "Oh God, Lita, I'm sorry. I'm so very sorry!" Ken kept repeating, "I didn't know that this would happen. I feel awful. It's all my fault. I'm so sorry for you. I wish I could take all your pain away." Ken said. He bowed his head and cried. The nurse came in shortly after and told Ken that his time was up. When he came out of the room, two people were standing with the doctor. Ken assumed that they were Lita's parents. "Ken?" the woman said, "I'm Joanne, Lita's mother." "Hi," Ken said, "I'm so very sorry." "So this is the Ken that Lita keeps talking about! Hi, I'm Robert, Lita's father. She always talks about you!" Robert said. Ken stared blankly at Lita's dad, for he never knew that Lita had feelings for him. "Your daughter is a very special person," Ken said, "She has given me so much." Joanne began to cry. Robert comforted his wife. They went in to see her. Ken didn't plan on going anywhere knowing that Lita was in the hospital. He never realized how special she was to him, until now. After two weeks, Lita still hadn't woken up. The doctors were getting worried. "There is nothing more we can do for her." they said. "So what are you saying?" Ken demanded, "You're just going to let her die?" Ken was fuming at the doctors. "You're NOT going to pull the plug! I won't let you!" ***
