Love Conquers All By: Sailor SwiftHeart Rated: PG *Chapter Two: Tell It Like It Is* One morning when Ken called Lita again, he noticed how much of a beautiful day it was outside. Once he hears Lita's voice, it was sweet music to ears. They talked for quite a long time. Lita gave Ken the confidence he needed to be open and honest with her and himself. Ken felt like he could tell her anything. Lita asked Ken to describe his future for her. "I have always pictured myself as an active family man," Ken said, "I guess that was just a pretty picture after all." He sighed. "You know that's not true. You're still young, Ken!" Lita said, "What's stopping you?" Ken was speechless. "You know something? I think you're right. I have all the time in the world. Nothing's standing in my way!" Ken said, "In fact, I'm going to start today. Would you like to join me?" "Well... I don't know...." Lita said. "Please? We could go to a park and go for a walk. You have to come. If it wasn't for you, I'd never be where I am today." Ken declared, "Please?" "Okay, I'll come." Lita finally agreed. They both decided on a place to meet and hung up the phone. Ken was going to meet Lita at a park near his house. This was the first time they would be face to face with each other. They had to describe themselves over the phone so they would be able to recognize each other. Ken arrived at the park earlier than their arranged time. He sat on the bench, eyeing all the people out. So far, no one fitting Lita's description was there. He sat back and relaxed. The sun was shining brightly. It truly was a gorgeous day. Ken realized that he hadn't been outside for ages. He took a few sobering, deep breaths. He felt them cleanse him. He waited a while longer for Lita to arrive. She went up to Ken and knew right away that it was him. "Ken?" she asked, when she approached him. "Yes. Lita?" Ken asked. "Hi!" Lita said. They both studied one another for a brief moment. "You never told me you were so pretty!" Ken exclaimed. Lita blushed. "Well, let's get going." "Okay, sounds good to me!" Lita said. Ken got up from the bench and they started walking. They talked for what seemed like hours. They talked about anything and everything. Ken couldn't help feeling a certain bond or connection with Lita. Hearing her voice over the phone was wonderful, but seeing her in person was heaven. What Ken didn't know was that Lita felt the same way. She was starting to really care for Ken. She was always told never to get involved with her patients, but Ken was different. Lita knew automatically from the start that Ken was different and special. They ended up walking and talking for two hours. They walked up to a cafe on the side of the road. "May I buy you a drink?" Ken asked his new companion. "Okay, sure." Lita said. They walked over, entered the cafe and seated themslves down. They ordered two Pepsies. "Lita?" Ken asked. "Yes?" Lita answered. "Thank you!" Ken declared. "For what?" Lita asked, puzzled. "For what?! For helping me through one of the most difficult times in my life. You have given me so much. I'll be forever grateful!" Ken said, "You are truly an inspiration." He leaned over and ligtly kissed Lita's cheek. They walked back to the park after finishing their drinks and Ken walked Lita to her car. "Call me soon, Ken." Lita said. "You can count on it!" Ken expressed. They said goodbye and Lita drove off. They'd spent one hell of a day together. Once at home, Ken realized just how much fun he'd had. He never felt more alive and healthy. He felt as if he had been reborn. *** Cheryl didn't come home until late in the evening. This time, she wasn't high on anything. Ken soon learned why. Cheryl was broke. The banks were closed. She needed money, so she could get high. Ken was NOT going to give her a penny, no matter how much she begged. "Oh please, Ken!" Cheryl said, "I need a drag to make me feel better. That's the only thing that works. I'm just a little short on cash, that's all. Please?" Cheryl asked Ken, with pleading eyes. "Oh come off it, Cheryl, I'm not giving you a cent! Why should I? So you can blow my hard earned money on dope? I don't think so!" Ken yelled, "Don't think I'm not onto you. I know what you're up to. I'm sick and tired of you using me for my money. Why don't you grow up for a change? I'm sick of having a druggie as my wife! Grow the hell up!" Cheryl was so shocked at what Ken said that she was speechless. She spat in Ken's face and stormed out of the house. Ken didn't care. It was about time someone told her the truth. He felt like he had accomplished something by finally letting Cheryl know how he felt. At least Cheryl knew where Ken now stood. He watched a bit of television before going to bed. He wasn't sure if Cheryl was going to come home that night. Ken was still concerned about her, even though Cheryl was a bitch. She finally found her way home late in the evening. Ken's mind was put to rest. He felt better knowing that Cheryl was at home, safe in bed, instead of at some sleazy bar. Although Ken felt no real love for Cheryl, his big heart still cared for her. But that was all he felt. Nothing more. How could he make love when there was no love there to begin with? Ken thought of Cheryl as nothing more than a pathetic person, in need of a lot of help. In a way, Ken felt obligated to do something. "Cheryl, are you awake?" Ken asked. "Yea. What do you want?" Cheryl asked, annoyed. "I was wondering if you have ever considered getting some help for your drinking problem? There's this number I have--" "WHAT?" Cheryl interrupted, "I don't have a drinking problem! Stop talking nonsense!" "It's not nonsense, Cheryl. I can smell the alcohol on your breath. You reak of booze. The first part of recovery is admitting your problem. That's what I learned from Lita." Ken said. "Who the HELL is LITA???" Cheryl asked, mimicking Ken. Ken just realized that Cheryl had no clue that he had been getting help from Lita over the phone. "Lita is my friend. She has been helping me through some problems I have. She really helps!" Ken said. "So how many times have you slept with her?" Cheryl screamed, "I thought you were commited to our marriage! And in the meantime, you've been sleeping around! I guess one of us takes this marriage more seriously than the other." Cheryl smirked. "What marriage, Cheryl? I wouldn't exactly call this a marriage. There is no love or commitment. We are supposed to love, honour and cherish one another. Call me blind, but I don't exactly see any of that gong on. Face it, Cheryl, our marriage is a farce." Ken said as gently as he could. "Well, two can play at this game!" Cheryl retorted, "If you can get away with screwing around, so can I!" Cheryl got dressed and stormed out of the room. Ken heard the front door slam and the car pull out of the driveway. Ken rolled over and punched his pillow. "Damn her!" he cursed. He could never win. Everything Ken said, Cheryl had to twist it to her advantage. She was then able to throw it back into Ken's face when they fought. Now she had run off somewhere to get revenge. *** Coming soon!
