Its been awhile folks, hasn’t it? I’m so sorry, I got a new computer and I didn’t save my stuff so I had to go to hell to try and get it back. Well, sorry again. Lets get to the story now. The usual disclaimers apply (don’t own it, never had and probably never will). Chapter VIII- Awakening Two weeks had passed since the attempted assassination. Makoto was in the cryogenic tank recuperating. The seven body guards (G-boys plus Mina and Rei) had went back later to find the other assassins but they had escaped. In those two weeks while Makoto was in the tank, Minako and Rei practiced their new powers well away from Queen Relena and any other people (except for the Heero and the others who knew). Minako and Duo became friends, and only friends. Duo had met his match in Minako. Rei and Wufei stayed as far away from each other as possible. Rei didn’t want to stay next to that “chauvinistic, pony tailed baka”, and Wufei didn’t want to stay next to the “self centered weak onna.” They both obviously avoided each other. Rei even went as far as choosing a bedroom on the other end of the palace. They did have duties however as Relena’s bodyguards. They just stood around and looked dangerous during meetings, treaties, etc. Relena still wasn’t aware that her bodyguards had any special powers and all seven bodyguards intended to keep it that way because Relena would undoubtedly abuse that power. Relena was aware though, that the three women had been experiments of Oz, which were unsuccessful and gave them the tattoos. It was all a lie though. Rei, Minako and the comatose Makoto were the only ones who knew the truth. As for their powers of future, past and present, only the Gundam boys knew about that and still disbelieved in their powers. Everything was going well, no more assassinations, nothing out of the ordinary. Until the day Makoto woke up… *****************(Cryogenic Lab in Mako P.O.V.)***************** I exhaled deeply. It had only been a dream, an awful one of the ordeal we went through to become what we were today. Opening my eyes I discovered I was floating in a tube tank thinggie, I was surrounded by some liquid. I also had several wires connected to my body. No, I wasn’t naked you hentai. I was wearing a black bikini, It didn’t do much…I wonder where they got that from. As I breathed out bubbles rose to the surface. I admit, I panicked and did the singularly most stupid thing I could do. I started to struggle. Bad idea, I had a breathing mask on my face and if that fell of I was done for Calm down Makoto…panic is only going to get me killed. I should have at least a look around… And that I did. Outside of my tank was a large laboratory. It had computers, monitors, everything that you expected to find in a lab. But the one thing missing were the people. There were no doctors and scientists in white lab coats. I was alone. I wondered where I was. A chill went down my back as I imagined myself in enemy hands. That can’t be possible…I saved Relena. We destroyed all of the enemies…I remember taking the bullet for her…and passed out later…Why did I do such a stupid thing? It’s funny how you don’t regret things until you have enough time on your hands to reflect and you instantly feel mortified. That’s how I felt now. But I shouldn’t have felt guilty because it was to save the time- weave. Time…I didn’t know how much time was left until the doctors or whoever came back. I had to escape. I looked down at myself. There was no way I could escape if I was still injured. Looking down I saw two small scars. I…I was healed. There was no way that I could have healed that fast…oh wait yes there is. Did I mention I have enhanced healing powers? Either that or what ever they did to try to heal me worked. How long had I been floating in the tube? Whatever, It’s time to make my getaway. I checked the level of my powers with my other sight. I was positively brimming with energy. That was the good news. The bad news was that my body felt like mush. It’ll be a hellish time trying to get back into shape. Now how to get out…how to get out? Yes, I’ve got it I can use my power and call some other plant? Damn it, I can’t do that, I’ll destroy all of the walls. I wonder if Relena will charge me for the damages in the hall. She would… Other then my plant power I can cause a small earthquake…yes that would work. It worked on Bruce, it didn’t save Relena but I only made a small quake around just him. So that should mean I could do this without destroying anything but this tank. I don’t care about this tank anyway. But it seems to me that it runs on emotions. Isn’t that lovely? Last time I was feeling anger. I just have to get angry, but at what? Bruce is dead and I pity him, not hate him. I haven’t been in the world long enough to really care for anything. Selene saw to that. No it wasn’t Selene, It was Chaos. Chaos…could she have been behind these attacks? Maybe, there’s no time to really check…That’s it, I can use Chaos, not as Selene but when we defeated Galaxia. I can use that. Channeling my energy and clenching my fists, I concentrated on the battle with Galaxia, my friends dying one by one until even I died. And Galaxia was another unwilling servant and chaos even dragged Serenity’s granddaughter into it. That is unforgivable. The tank started to shake. I felt the liquid swishing around me. Peeking one eye open I found that the tank was the only thing moving in the room which was a good thing. I almost lost control of the shake. A couple of the computers fell over, but didn’t break thankfully. I took a deep breath of air, but realized there was no more air coming through the breather. I must have severed the tube some how…I took a deep breath of the remaining air and tore the mask of. I admit, I panicked again but this time it was a good thing. The panic fueled my power and the glass began to crack. It didn’t seem to crack quickly enough. My lungs began to burn with the need for good old oxygen. Then with a crash, the glass broke. Everything including me tumbled out. Unfortunately I landed on glass and cut my legs but I didn’t care, I would heal eventually. The important thing was that I was free. I gasped for air and coughed out all of the liquid I swallowed. I immediately tore off all of the wires connected to me. Now was the time to escape. They might have heard the crash and come looking for me. I couldn’t be too sure it wasn’t the enemy. Struggling to my knees I immediately collapsed. My body felt like spaghetti, so much for that idea. Well I began to crawl, not one of my better ideas. It would take awhile but I would escape. My body was so numbed up from what ever they did to me that I didn’t notice I was leaving a small trail of blood on my way out. ******************(End of P.O.V.)**************** Minako was with Duo walking in the halls outside of a peace meeting. They were supposed to be patrolling but it didn’t look that way seeing as Minako kept laughing at Duo’s jokes. Then she stopped and stared at something. Her eyes were out of focus and she looked like she was on cloud nine. Duo was confused until he followed her gaze and saw her staring at Millardo Peacecraft (A.N.- I just had to put him into the story somehow). Duo noticed she got that way after looking at guys. Not to mention her flirting with every eligible guy in city. It made his blood boil. He was madly in love with Minako but she didn’t notice. She didn’t even flirt with him and he found that odd. Sure, Minako treated him like a best friend but never anything more. Duo kept trying to tell Minako his true feelings but it seemed like they were always interrupted. This case wasn’t any different. Mina began to walk over to Milliardo using her flirty walk but Duo called her. “Mina, I have something to tell you,” he said with a flush on his face. Mina came back with a sigh. She looked absolutely beautiful at that moment. She was wearing long pants and a tube top. Rei and Minako discovered a way to manipulate the tattoos from the face and neck but it didn’t seem to work on their legs or arms. People kept commenting on how beautiful they were but they wouldn’t say all of those pretty things if they saw their whole body covered with them. Duo felt like now was the perfect moment to confess his true feelings. And he didn’t have to do it in front of anybody because Milliardo had went into the meeting room leaving Minako and Duo alone in the large empty halls. “What is it Duo-kun?” she asked. “Mina I-” Duo was interrupted yet again, this time by Quatra. Duo spun around to face him, really mad at the interruption. Quatra looked out of breath as if he had ran to them. “Mina…Duo…Makoto’s…” he stopped to catch his breath. “What happened to Makoto!” Mina asked alarmed. “She’s gone,” Quatra finished. Mina, Duo and Quatra were at the cryogenic lab ten minutes later, both of them were out of breath. Wufei, Heero, Trowa and Rei were already there. They look like they had only been there for a short while. The room was intact except for the cryogenic tank that was completely shattered. The floor was wet with the liquid. There was blood on the glass and a trail leading out the door. Heero was bent next to the puddle of blood. He took one finger and touched the blood and seemed to test its consistency with. He looked puzzled. Rei and Mina were blushing, as they both knew why Heero was puzzled. Their blood was slightly different then normal you can say it was rainbow of metallic colors, another happy little result of their transformation. The reason they were blushing was because they both wanted to be as normal as possible. Rarely did situations where their differences were obvious occur. The G-boys were all examining the blood themselves. “This is-this is blood?” Trowa asked. Minako suddenly was interested in how many holes were in the tiles on the ceiling. Rei glared at Minako. Without Makoto, the job of explaining things fell to her. “Well yes…its blood…I don’t know why its that color myself…I guess you can say it was a side effect from the transformation…erm…experiment.” Rei had a look on her face that dared them to comment further. “Ok, the onna is your friend. Tell us where she went and how the hell she did this,” Wufei said. One would expect Rei to kill him on the spot but she left him alone knowing that it would piss him off more. “Well Makoto doesn’t like to be fussed over so when she woke from her coma she probably escaped. Remember we have powers. One of hers is to make earthquakes,” Minako said. Heero nodded gravely and rose. “We have to find her now. The cryogenic process numbed up her body. She could be bleeding to death as we speak and not even be aware of it,” he said. “Why Heero, I never knew you cared,” Duo said. “Hn.” Mina and Rei kept quiet. The boys were forgetting that they had healing powers and it was tiresome trying to remind them. It didn’t matter though; the sooner they found Makoto the better. “Let’s follow the tracks then,” Trowa said. Mina and Rei nodded. The bodyguards followed the trail for nearly an hour. It disappeared at times but they always found it. After awhile the trail disappeared completely. Makoto had probably healed enough so she wouldn’t bleed. They were outside in a small forest by then. Makoto could have been anywhere. “Split up, she couldn’t have gotten far,” Heero said. Mina tried not to laugh because it sounded like Makoto was an escaped convict but she realized how serious the situation was and didn’t. Heero was actually the one who found Makoto. He had been following a trail of flowers. Weird but true. The flowers were all in full bloom. It sounded like some side effect of Makoto’s power. The trail led to a small clearing. He would have missed it completely seeing as high brambles and large trees surrounded it. There was no way to get inside except for up. Heero climbed up one of the trees and hopped over. His eyes widened in surprise at the scene in the small grove. There was a small pond with a willow dipping near it. The pond was filled with water lilies and was complete with several kinds of iridescent fish. The cherry blossom trees in the grove were in full bloom and filled the air with falling pink petals. It was completely beautiful and peaceful. Yes, that was what the perfect soldier was thinking but tried desperately to think of something else lest he be considered weak. His seemingly stoic mask had loosened several notches. He found Makoto unconscious in the center of the ethereal grove. She was lying on a stone slab wearing nothing but a black bikini and her green vine tattoos. There was a little bit of blood on her arms and legs but she was well on her way to recovery. The ground around the stone was filled with small flowers in full bloom that seemed to be reaching for Makoto. Heero knew he had to leave soon or he would stay forever looking at the picturesque scenery but his training took over once more. He kneeled by Makoto and picked her up. She was surprisingly light and she smelled of the flowery scent of nature. It was comforting. Heero’s stoic mask disappeared completely. He looked around for a way out. There was none and he doubted he could carry her up the tree. Maybe he could go and come back for her…no telling what could happen if she was left alone. That idea was abandoned. Then he felt Makoto stirring in his arms. Makoto blinked open her emerald eyes slowly. She found herself looking into Heero’s Prussian blue eyes. Looking around she found that she was still in the grove she had collapsed in only it looked beautiful and she knew her presence had something to do with it. A barricade of brambles enclosed the grove. Makoto had called the plants to protect her before she passed out; they did their job too well. How did Heero get in there then? The answer was obvious as she saw a tree branch from outside reaching into the grove. Heero had climbed in. Wait…Heero? What was he doing here? Makoto was more alert. She was half sleep earlier. “H-Heero?” she asked. “Hn,” he said in his perfect soldier mode. Makoto frowned. Heero’s voice didn’t match his face. The invisible mask he wore had been removed. The emotions on his face were visible. The emotion on his face was worth a thousand words. The pain behind his eyes, the look of promises unfulfilled…he looked a like a lost child but that strangely made him seem more human. Before Makoto could dig deeper he looked away. “You’re friends are looking for you. We have to go,” he said. Makoto nodded. Heero looked once more at her, his emotions still visible. One of the ones that played across his face was concern. Makoto was the one to look away this time. She knew she was seeing something rare, something he tried to keep hid. “Can you walk?” he asked. Makoto looked at his face but couldn’t meet his eyes. “I-I don’t know,” she said. Heero slowly set her down. She stood up slowly but at her first step, she collapsed. Heero set her down back on the slab. “I’ll go look for a way out. Stay here.” Makoto nodded and watched as Heero walked down to the brambles, looking for a weak spot. ‘What was that all about? He’s more human then I thought.’ Makoto broke out of her little reverie and found Heero struggling to find a weak spot in the seemingly impenetrable plant barricade. It was kind of funny the way he looked. He looked like a frustrated child who couldn’t beat a game. ‘I shouldn’t be enjoying this but I am. I’m probably not going to see him like this again. Don’t laugh Mako-chan, don’t laugh. I could help him…its not like its difficult for me and the look on his face when I do it will be priceless. I wish I had a camera,’ she thought to herself. With a casual flick of her wrist the vines and brambles parted creating a doorway. Heero however was busy trying to find an entrance and didn’t notice the obvious exit. He worked his way to the right using his hands and a stick to check for weakness. There weren’t any. After laughing at the absurdity of the situation Makoto grew tired of waiting for Heero to stumble upon the doorway. She merged minds with a nearby vine. It tapped him on the shoulder. Heero had his gun pointed to the vine. The vine motioned towards something. Heero looked back at Makoto. She looked innocent as she studied a flower…a little to innocent. He followed the vine with his gun still out and stopped in his tracks when he saw where it had led him. He was standing in front of a gate. Heero looked back at Makoto. She was laughing so hard tears were beginning to run down her cheeks. Mako expected him to glare at her or worse but to her surprise he laughed. It wasn’t as strong as her laugh but it was an unmistakable laugh. He walked up to her with his laugh fading. Makoto was surprised and gladdened by his change in attitude. She knew that when they were around anybody else that he would return once more to the stoic Heero Yuy…the perfect soldier. He lifted her up again and they walked to the gate. “Yuy?” she asked. “What?” he asked abruptly. “Um…about this grove. Don’t tell anybody about it. Let it be our little secret…I don’t want anybody else to disturb it. Please,” she asked sincerely. “Hn,” he answered. Heero stopped after they exited the grove. At Makoto’s insistence he turned. They both got a last look at the paradise. “Guard my sanctuary,” she whispered. Heero was puzzled but then he realized that she was talking to the plants and not to him. She swept her arm over the scene in front of her. The vines closed the paradise, guarding it until the ‘mistress’ returned. “Let’s go Yuy,” she said. Heero turned and walked back to where he agreed to meet the others. With every step he took, his invisible mask was slipping back into place. Makoto looked up at his face. ‘It was nice while it lasted.’ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Wasn’t that lovely. It wasn’t mush (my mush scenes are horrible) but we’re getting there. Please review to let me know that people have borne with my procrastination and are still reading this.
