SUNDAY IN THE PARK
11/27 - The NIGHT before E-Day! I am writing from Changsha and it is quite late so this posting will be short. We had a wonderful day in Beijing. We got up early and took a walk through a neighborhood and finally got a feeling for life in China. The street vendors were out, the food all looked amazing and it was only the thought of Eleanor which kept us from indulging! We then came upon a market and watched as people shopped. Everything was incredibly vivid and alive and we could not have been happier! I was snapping pictures like crazy! However, as the only "big noses" around, people were stopping and staring at us -- so it was all mutual!
We then met up with the group and went to the Temple of Heaven which is where the Emperor prayed twice a year. It is now a big park and because living spaces are so small in China, the public parks become everyone's second home -- so we saw large groups of people ballroom dancing, doing Tai Chi ball, playing cards, fan dancing, playing music and singing, flying kites and just enjoying being outside. What was amazing is that even though you are surrounded by hundreds of people at all times (literally), it is still enjoyable. We could not walk more then 5 feet at a time because there would be something or someone to stop and watch. It was an absolutely perfect day!
We then flew to Changsha. We are all starting to get nervous and the tone of the group has changed as we get into the final hours before we become parents!
