During this journey, this pilgrimage, Christians often become weary, frightened, or discouraged. So it is good to take a few moments for rest from the journey, to regain our strength, our courage, and maybe even our focus.
The Bible is the Book of Life to direct the child of God. But there is a Book within this vast, divine library which we call the Bible, a Book which is particularly suited to pointing out the various areas of rest along the pilgrim's path. The Book of Psalms.
While it is the Hymn Book of the Church, as well as its Prayer Book, the Book of Psalms also helps the weary traveler to reflect upon the trials along the way, the dangers faced, the discouragements and disappointments, as well as the emotional turmoil these cause within our troubled breasts.
Here in the Book of Psalms we find that our God, our Savior, the Good Shepherd, restores our souls, and helps us to begin to think correctly again, to choose wisely again, and to begin again to have feelings which are honoring to God.
You are invited to take a few moments to explore some of the places to which our Lord invites us, when he said to his own, "Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place, and rest awhile" (Mark 6:31).
