I Still Believe In Miracles

Hello again, Friend!

While strolling through the Garden of Hope one day, I was reminded of one of my own special miracles, and wondered how many of you still believed that miracles are real, and still happen today.

Do you remember the day your first child was born and the joy of holding that precious bundle in your arms for the first time? I couldn't believe that something so perfectly dear and helpless was entrusted to MY care.

I was still unsaved then, and was completely in awe of giving birth. I was actually participating in a miracle! I counted every finger and toe on the little body. I played with the tiny wisps of hair surrounding his angelic face.

Do you remember the mother's love that sprang up inside of you? That love which caused you to reach out in the middle of the night to touch him to see if he was still breathing, or take the little bundle into bed with you more to reassure yourself than to comfort him. Truth be known, you were as fierce a protector as a lioness.

Soon after his birth, I gave my life to the Lord, and began to grow in the Spirit. One evening I came home from church to find him displaying all the symptoms of pneumonia. In 1960, we didn't have the amazingly effective drugs we have now. I took him to the hospital immediately, which was at least thirty miles away.

The doctor began an IV on him, and the needed treatment on him quickly. He knew the danger my son was in.

He had to be hospitalized for a fortnight. I only left his side to go home for a few changes of clothes now and then.

One day as I left for a short run home the nurse told me they were going to try to pack him in ice. If that did not work to bring down the fever, there was nothing left to be done. I was only twenty, a baby Christian, but I knew that if something didn't happen soon, I was going to lose my baby. I told the family that they should all come to see him, because without God's intervention, it could very well be their last visit.

I prayed earnestly all the way home and back to the hospital for my increasingly lifeless child. I had no idea what was awaiting me when I arrived back at his room. Imagine the surprise I received when I found my little two month old sitting up in his crib, breathing normally and watching Oral Roberts on TV!

Believe what you will, but I KNOW we received a miracle that day! In a few days, he came home from the hospital to become part of our family and give us many years of joyful parenthood.

This is one lady who firmly believes in miracles! I see living proof of them regularly.

Your sister and friend,

Jayne
