An arc in the Yu-Gi-Oh world is the equivelent of a saga in any other Anime. There are two Arcs, and two mini arcs, in the Yu-Gi-Oh world. Each one is described as follows.
The Duelist Kingdom: The Duelist Kingdom Arc is the first arc in the Yu-Gi-Oh universe. This arc truely begins when Yugi duels Pegasus, and loses the soul of his Grandfather to him. In order to get him back, Yugi must duel Pegasus and win, after becoming a finalist in Pegasus' Duelist Kingdom tornument. In order to this, he has to battle and collect ten star chips (each duelist begins with two). Just as he's making up his mind to go, however, his best friend Joey gets a video from his little sister, Serenity. She's going to go blind, unless she gets an expencive surgery. Joey makes up his mind then and there to win the 3,000,000 prize from the duelist kingdom tornument, and Yugi gives him a star chip so that he can go (meaning they are at the disadvantage of only starting out with one instead of two). As the arc progresses, Pegasus also captures the souls of Seto Kaiba and his little brother Mokuba, whom Yugi feels he must also save.
The Dungeon Dice Monsters Mini-Arc: This little arc is five episodes long, and features Duke Devlin. Duke created a game called Dungeon Dice Monsters, and showed it to Pegasus, who was going to patent it until Yugi beat him and he fell mysteriously ill. Duke was furious, and convinced that Yugi had cheated to beat his hero. He swore then and there that he would someday beat Yugi. One day, he comes to Domino High School, the same school that everyone else goes too. All the girls adore him, and he humiliates Joey, so Joey challenges him to a duel. Duke agrees, on the condition that they open new packs and build new decks. Duke wins (boo!) and under a condition that Joey agreed to, he has to do whatever Duke says for a week. So, Duke puts him in a puppy costume and totally humiliates him! Yugi, unable to stand this, challenges Duke to a duel of Dungeon Dice Monsters. And that is the plot for the next four episodes.
The Virtual Reality Mini-Arc: I've never actually seen this one, so I'm going to have to try and summerize from what I've read. Basically, Kaiba invented a virtual reality dueling game, but when he goes to try it out he gets sucked into it by some corrupt people that work for Kaiba Corp. Worried for his brother, Mokuba enlists the help of Yugi, Mai, and Joey to get him back. And that's all I really know, besides that it's coming up on Kids WB sometime in the next few Saturdays...
The Battle City Arc: This is where all of the Ancient Egypt stuff comes into play! Isis come to Egypt, and tells Kaiba all about his past life in ancient Egypt, and about the collosal battle between his past self and the Pharoh Yami. She gives him the God card Oblisk and tells him that he should start a tornument so that it will attract the rare hunters as well as the other two missing God cards. This, of course, he does. Each duelist must collect six locater cards, which create a map and allows them to enter the finals. And guess who enters? Joey, Mai, and Yugi of course! They must face the rare hunters, people under the control of Isis's brother Malik, as well as regular duelists if they want to get to the finals. This arc isn't completed in America yet. |
