Biography: Okay, He may be a bad guy, but Marik is the coolest bad guy there ever was! To understand by, we have to go back in time to before Marik was even born...
Marik's family live underground, because they are suppossed to gaurd the tomb of the Pharoh until his return. The daughters become priestess, like Isis did, and the sons are suppossed to take over after the death of their father. Problem was, their parents didn't have any sons. So, they adopted Rishid as their heir until one day, a son was born to them by some twist of fate! That son was Marik.
Like Kaiba, Marik deffinatly did NOT have the best of childhoods. If you've watched the show you've seen the ancient egyptain markings that were tatooed on Marik's back at a very young age (Rishid got tatooed to so that Marik wouldn't have to do it alone. Really sweet!)
Well one day, Marik (and I'll bet Isis too) stumple upon their father beating Rishid close to death! Rishid is Marik's best and only friend so he gets upset. That was the begining of Yami Marik. In this encounter, Yami Marik kills Marik's father, and Marik is told that it was the will of the Pharoh. Even though the guy was an obvious horrible jerk, Marik must have cared about him, because he sworn vengence on the Pharoh and desided that fate had deemed him worthy of becoming the next Pharoh.
Now back to Battle City, where Marik is the bad guy.
Using that millenium rod of his, Marik can control people's minds (and does so, frequently). He is obsessed with becoming the next Pharoh by winning Yugi's Millenium Puzzle and getting all three God cards (when the Arc starts he already has two, but I think he ends up losing them both. I know he loses one to Yugi, I've heard that he loses one to Joey...).
Marik's problem is that he had to grow up to fast, his Yami came out so soon and never left, and that he had such a horrible childhood. Really, he isn't that awful. He's doing the only thing he knows how to do, and that's get the world before it gets him. He's searching for peace that just isn't there. Even through all the darkness and pain that he lives through, he still loves his sister and cares deeply for Rishid. The only thing really wrong with Marik is his voice in the dub ^_^.
So, like I said, Marik is the coolest bad guy ever. Don't you agree?
