Addresses of Webpages

(Also see my friends' webpages.)

http://www.tashian.com/multibabel
This site will take any text and run it back and forth through the Babelfish tranlator until it's suitably mangled English. For example: "Welcome to the first day of the rest of your lives, class of two thousand six" becomes "Welcomely the first day of the rest of the relative screw, classifies two of seises of mila". So saying "You're just jealous of my wonderful personality" spits back something like "You are merely jealous of my narcotic state."

www.arstechnica.com
Ars Technica and the associated fora. It's the best tech news/enthusiast site I know. They regularly run original articles on advanced science or engineering, and the forum members are extremely helpful.

The Onion is very cool, very funny
Slashdot and Bottomquark are also great websites
Try www.mchawking.com if you haven't already, and look at some of the links on that.

I've always loved the Project Gutenberg website. It's a library of hundreds of books you can read online or download for free. While there isn't anything modern, pretty much any classic is in there (everything from Homer to Austen to the Gettysburg address). It's really nice for if you are writing a paper and can't remember where exactly in a book the author discussed a certain topic, because you can just search the text. It's also perfect for work, when you don't want anyone to know you aren't really working... of course I don't use it at work... no, not me :)

http://www.sacred-texts.com/index.htm
This is like a Project Gutenberg for sacred texts - it's got everything from Nostradamus to books on the Bahai faith to Buddhism to the Bible. It's just plain fun to browse around, especially if you are interested in religion

This is a must read if you plan on ever taking over the world... it's also kinda funny too :)

Despair
A guy I know just doesn't get the whole Despair Inc. brand of humor. Thinks I'm a pessimist for putting "Underachievement" on my desktop. He's going to Stanford, must be one of those wacko Californians I keep hearing about.

www.huxley.net
I want to third the book suggestion for Brave New World and mention a hilarious website:
www.truemeaningoflife.com
Check the archives first--it's been going downhill lately, but I'm sure they'll pick it up soon.

www.cripplingdepression.com comics
it kept me alive during the whole admissions thing.

p.s. For some general test-writing tips, please check out

and
