In the Depths of the Sea....
Lots of people say that Matt/Yamato is the deepest character in the Digimon series because he wanted to be better than he was and stuff, his dealings by himself, etc, etc. Then maybe you don't know the depths of Jou Kido....
His father wanted him to become a doctor for a very long time. When we first meet Joe in the series premiere, he was carrying a medical bag and sort. He looked like he was well on his way to becoming a doctor. But don't judge the book by it's cover.....
Joe probably became much of a pessimist because of all the bad things that sorta happen to him (always being the butt of the jokes, something bad always happening to him...). He's always doom-crying, and I don't think he can help himself.
He's pretty much on a battle over himself. Over control. Over what other people expect him to do and what he believes he should do. I think that's why he was so depressed over his crest, reliability, because he thought it was a reminder that he wasn't so much in control. That's why he left on a search for himself.
I think he is the deepest of the bunch. Unlike Tai or Sora or Mimi, we don't know what's going on inside Joe's mind. With Matt, you sorta got the impression that something's going on in his head, but with Joe, you couldn't really tell. In a way, you could sense that something's wrong, but in a way, you really can't.
When 02 started, Joe was no longer the pessimistic and troubled guy we first came to realize. He's more mature and more calmer (like the wtaers) now. He has more understanding of what's going on and he uses that knowledge to help people around him when they need him.
