JOURNEY THROUGH THE CANADIAN ROCKIES continued
Now we're really in the Rockies. We spent four nights in Jasper and walked some good trails. The Pyramid Bench Trail gave us good views and a lovely picnic spot on the island in Pyramid Lake. Eight of us, (The Jasper 8) had a super meal together at L and Ws - so good that we booked a table to repeat the evening a second time.

We had a day trip to Maligne lake and several of us set off on the Bald Hills Trail. Deep snow prevented our reaching the top of the first Bald Hill but we enjoyed a picnic quite high up with good views of the lake. The innocent looking grey jay ate Mike's sandwiches - he was not pleased!! Maligne Canyon was very impressive.

On our last day in Jasper, Whistlers Mountain was under quite heavy cloud so ascending was not the schedule for the morning. However the Jasper 8, feeling quite rebellious, set off for the tramcar anyway. We were rewarded by astonishing views as the clouds swirled around. Six of us walked down the super trail which zig-zagged really nicely. We stopped for a picnic not far below the summit and before we 'd quite finished eating it started to snow heavily. However by the time we finished the descent it was really hot and sunny.

The journey from Jasper to Banff along the Icefields Parkway was most enjoyable. We did all the touristy things -

Our last few nights were spent in Banff - still surrounded by magnificent scenery. Again we walked some excellent trails. The highlight of the holiday for us was climbing Sulphur Mountain.

All good things must come to an end but the memories live on. We flew home on 8 July and it has taken more than a month to sort out all the photographs so that has kept everything fresh in our minds. Here's to the next holiday!
