| Lupin III: Castle Cagliostro |
| Possibly the most famous of the Lupin movies, written and directed by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki. Miyazaki managed to maintain the characteristics of the Lupin series and it's charm and meld it with his own unique and beautiful storytelling to create a memorable piece of film that has stood the test of time. This particular Lupin movie as you would expect has all the classic fan favorite characters in it. (Lupin, Jigen, Goemon, Fujiko and Zenigata) Although this is the movie where Fujiko really gets to shine and show off. The opening is classic and wonderfully choreographed with one of the more fun car chases in animated history. much the same could be said for the climax as well, turning to a race against time. The plot being fairly simple fairy tale fair, the princess being forced to marry against her will and Lupin comes to her rescue, but it is pulled off with such flair by Miyazaki as to make it seem fresh and far more fun than it should be. Overall this is a classic although it won't appeal to everyone it is well worth tracking down. Reviewed by Alia |
