Wednesday 2/4/03 – I’m leaving on a Jet plane…don’t know when I’ll be back again.

After my heart skipped a beat because I misplaced my wallet (and I hadn’t even left Australia) Dad eventually found it in the back seat of the car –good one Jo. It was a teary farewell at the departure gate, by that time it still hadn’t sunk in that I was going to Japan for one year. On the flight from Sydney to Singapore we took off to some Spanish guitar love song, Kim, I was quite disappointed because it was not even close to Nikki Webster’s “These are the best days of our lives” when we took off for our 2001 round the world trip. But then I realised I was actually listening to an easy listening station…which explained everything. Kitee, Dan and I were seated separately because our tickets were booked separately and it was probably on this flight that we should have sat together so we could have all cried together hehehe. Anyways after 6 hours of pondering time, it still hadn’t sunk in yet and I needed someone to pinch me but there were difficulties trying to ask Japanese lady to carry out my request. There was a bit of turbulence but I wasn’t phased. The pilot said that we had a clear view of Uluru from the left, well I was on the window seat on the left and I personally think that I had a better view of the wing. Uluru….where?

We stopped off in Singapore for 3 hours, there were quite a few people wearing masks around the airport. I whipped out my mask for 2 secs to snap a stupid photo of me pretending to be a surgeon getting scrubbed up– I’m waiting for lightning to strike me or at least start having flu like symptoms…(sigh) karma…

I tuned into the correct listening station second time round on our flight from Singapore to Nagoya and we took off to Coldplay’s yellow. The stars we’re definitely shining upon us as we boarded the plane at 1am in the morning. The plane was practically empty so I chose to try out not only the one 3 seaters that were empty but many. I must say I had the best breakfast on this flight. I went for the Japanese breakfast as opposed to the omelette and sausages. The Japanese breakfast was rice, salmon, tofu and egg and it was really tasty.

For the landing I went down to the very back of the plane so I’d have a clear view of Nagoya as opposed to a clear view of the wing. It was kinda cloudy but managed to see a lot of rice paddies, houses and factories. It looked very…grey.
