Tuesday 8 April – Happy Birthday Dan

The weather in Gifu reminds me of the weather in Sydney, erratic. The last 2 days have been really nice but today just turned. It rained and it rained and it didn’t quite go away. As we all know when it rains, people flock to the shopping centres, and thus we find ourselves in MASA again….shopping….at the 100 yen store. This time around much wasn’t quite as exciting as the last, I have to keep an eye on my budget. Being Dan’s 21st birthday we did originally have in mind to go to karaoke but because of the crap weather, we decided just to have a quite dinner at the kaikan (international student house) and then play games in the lobby. So I cooked her something really special for her birthday dinner….spaghetti and boy did she feel special…not. It was the easiest thing to cook for a party of 11 and everyone seemed to enjoy spag bol (Choo family style minus the chilli).

After dinner we moved to the lobby where I suggested we play musical chairs….that never eventuated but never fear the hacky sac is here. We actually had a really good game going, maybe about 6 people, ever since I introduced it to everyone a few days ago, I’ve already had requests from people wondering where they can get one from. I’ve also noticed that the people that had never played it before have improved since starting. Hrrmmm somehow I’m think I’m conveying the impression that there’s nothing much to do around here…well yes that’s pretty much right. I was asking someone the other day, “hey you know with our intensive language course and how it’s Monday to Friday 9 till 4, do you think that we’ll have time to join clubs and stuff?” – I answered my own question “oh yeh that’s right we’re in Gifu there’s always time.” Getting bored with the hacky I sat down for a quick game of you know Uno before migrating to the recreation room to watch the Koreans ping-ing the pong (damn they’re good at it), and somehow or rather I ended up in the corridor doing cartwheels with Jess (capoeira withdrawals I’m thinking). Then more people started doing cartwheels and then somehow we were back in the rec room having a taekwondo lesson at 11.45pm. Che from Korea has a black belt and use to teach it back in Korea, ever since we found out that he was a taekwondo expert we’ve been pestering him to teach us some moves and we finally got our chance.
