29.07.02we took this picture right before lee left for Italy.  the phrase as you was given to us by John Lennon.  I'm thinking about getting "a working class hero is something to be" tattooed.  ok i know that ridiculous, but i've been thinking about it for a while.  (ok, three years) the older i get, the more i move around in my semi-intellectual world, the more relevant it becomes. being a hero from the working class rising above, being a hero for the working class stooping down.  it makes me think about dad and how much i respect the choices he's made with his career and my friend shaun who is the quintessential working class hero.  and people who want to be but can't cause they're trapped in paradoxes by birth and education.  and what about me? i don't think i'll ever be either, but i'm somehow holding it up not just as "something to be" but something we should think more about being.  in our mishmash of consumer goods, detailed itineraries, and prepackaged subculture.

06.05.01 From the inside of a Belle and Sebastion leaflet. Once upon a time a wallpaper on my boyfriend's computer, this picture represents our new project of taking all of our cds out their jewel cases and putting them into to prosleeves and nifty boxes from target.  So that no more will anyone comment about the number of cds we own.  Its kind of like putting your stereo in a kabinet.  this is the final cutting of the ties that bind us to our pseudo-scenester pasts.

28.04.01    The light blue version of the new to America Vespa.  Its a sleeker version of the 60's model, thankfully sans the tacky accessories the model gathered in the late 70's and early 80's.  I'd like to buy one.  maybe one day I will.

21.04.01    The origin of the Havanera is linked to the melodic Creole music of the West Indies, brought to Catalonia by the 19th century sailors who filled the Route of the Antilles. Sailors and fishermen, accompanied by an accordion or a guitar, sang them spontaneously after a good meal, while they downed their rations of flambée rum. Later, public exhibitions abounded, with professional and amateur singers alike. In 1967, the Amics de Calella de Palafrugell organized the first Cantada ("Singing of Havaneres"), making this town the unofficial capital of this form of song. The popularity of the festival attracts over ten thousand visitors every year, who invade the covers and fill boats to hear the melodies accompanied by the popular rum called Cremat.

25.02.01     Made by Mr. J Pendergast it now graces my computer's wallpaper. I will tell a story about the photo.  Some people came over to my house, as friends often do, and since i live in a very, teeny, tiny studio with a lot of furniture, there isn't much to look at and the computer is practically in the centre of the room.  So lots of people comment on the picture and try to decide who the girl is.  Some people think it is the girl form "Cider House Rules" I agree, except i think she is blonde in that movie.  Most agree that is some kind of movie star because of her smile.  Later i find out that is actually his girlfriend who lives far away form him and he makes the pictures to send to her, i think.  And that is really sweet.  I just wanted to share how sweet some people can be. I hope she finds out that some kids in Chicago thought she looked like a movie star.
