The Giant Drop
On The Giant Drop everything literally drops (except your hair-do), as you plummet a knuckle-twisting 120-metres at terminal speed, in the most exciting free fall on the planet. This popular high-tech thrill ride created no less than three world firsts when it opened to the public on December 26, 1998.

1. It's the tallest free fall ride in the world
2. It created structural design and construction history for rides of this type
3. The dual 8-seat gondolas were used for the first time on a ride of this height and design.

Set on a dilapidated oil rig site, aptly named The Giant Oil Company, the ride spans over 500 square metres and guarantees a heart-dropping, stomach-dropping, mind-dropping ride all the way to the bottom of the tower.
Not one but two great 'drops'
The Giant Drop offers not one, but two 'drop' sensations. Visitors riding the western gondola take the plunge straight down, while passengers on the eastern side start to plunge and as the adrenaline rises the ride slows briefly, before dramatically plunging again.

  Fast facts
Riders' legs dangle freely from the open air 8-seat gondolas.
The Giant Drop shares the tower that supports the Tower of Terror.
What's stopping you? A sophisticated magnetic braking system stops the gondolas metres from the ground.
Free fall time is 5 seconds. The winch to the top takes approximately 90 seconds.
Falling 120 metres is the equivalent of falling from a 39-storey building.
