July 4th 2001

My dad (Tom) arrived in Portland on Sunday and we went straight from the airport to Bonneville Dam off the Columbia River to do some sturgeon fishing. The fun starts right when you get off the plane here in Oregon.

Here is Tom reeling in a big one.
Come on Tom he isn't that big.
Jim's turn to take a crack at it.
Jim looking cool and collected
How many people does it take to bring this fish in?
Here is the sturgeon really close to shore.
Here's Tom help out with them removing the hook.
Now the sturgeon swims safely away.
Josh and Tom on the rocks.

Then on Monday we left to the beach we camped in Barview, which is 2 miles north of Garabaldi. Here is a panoramic picture of Garabaldi that I took. Click on the picture for the full size version.

Here are the pictures that were taken at the camp spot. As you can see we had fun. What did you do for the 4th?

Here is a picture of the bay in between Garabaldi and Barview.
A really good picture of Heidi and Trisha.
Annette and Don relaxing on their love seat.

Uh oh it's night time for the gang.
Heidi and Andy, Ohhhhh so cute.
Josh and Trisha, even more cute.
Andy and Josh, but who is cornholio?
Wooooh watch out for that guy.

Along with fishing and camping we also did some crabbing. We did really well, but none of them were keepers. We caught 6 the first day, 2 the next and 4 the last day; and your limit is 12 per person. So where were all the keepers?

Here is my crew; Captain - Josh, Swabby - Chris and first mate - Andy.
Another days crew; Captain - Josh, Swabby - Robert and first mate - Tom.
Here is Andy struggling the bring up those crab traps full of non-keepers.
Come on Chris and lets see you whistle while you work.
All right now my dad gets into the action, and who says you can't teach a old dog new tricks.
Here is Tom trying to find a keeper, watch out for those pinchers.
Make sure you measure the crab, because it is a $100 ticket for each crab that is to small.
Wait dad don't eat him yet, we need to cook him first.
Now Andy is take the con and telling the ladies to come carry him to shore.
Andy has to make sure that his feet don't get wet.
Captain and first mate, and that is all you guys caught?
That's right, the men do all the work and the women get all the crab.
