Pic makes bow at Variety screening series

By JOSH MARKS

WHAT: Variety Screening Series unspooling of Focus Features' "Hollywoodland."

WHO: Helmer Allen Coulter, plus thesps Ben Affleck, Diane Lane and Adrien Brody

WHERE: ArcLight Cinemas, Hollywood

AFFLECK ON REEVES: Affleck, perhaps reflecting upon his own "Bennifer" days in tabloids, said "There is a similar typecasting which happens now and it's not about seeing somebody in a certain kind of part. Celebrity coverage, in a way, is foreshadowed by Reeves' death and the media fixation on his death as scandalous. There was that sort of prurient interest in it that overshadowed the interest in him as an actor."

LANE ON TONI MANNIX: "How can anybody ever try to recover from never having the opportunity to ask for forgiveness or to say you want to forgive, when something like this (Reeves' suicide) has occurred?"

COULTER ON BRODY'S FILM CHARACTER: "He's playing, almost like a child, at being a detective. And he's essentially a middle class man. He has a wife and a child in the Valley. He's not a typical detective,' " said Coulter.
