‘Swingers’ still money, baby
GO DADDY-O: In
1996, an unlikely hipster hit managed to revive swing music, introduce “money”
and “baby” to the vernacular of college-aged males and launch the careers of
unknowns Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn and director Doug Liman. Liman still marvels at “Swingers’”
success, to which the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival pays homage with a 10-year
reunion. “To make a film with a totally unknown director, cast, a $200,000
budget and have Miramax buy and release it – and more importantly, for people
to remember it 10 years later – I’d say that pretty much exceeded my wildest
dreams,” Liman says.
