...Turns out that the leasing agency had failed to replace the carpeting in our duplex as promised. Instead, we had the old carpet they'd left in while rehabing the place. It was so nasty, that when I walked barefoot on it my feet were blackened and sticky. So we ended up unloading all of our belongings into the garage and staying overnight with my sister Kristiana, across the street from my duplex, while I left an irate message with lots of buzz words like "breech of contract" on the voicemail for the leasing agency.

Now, I'd like to pretend that I so intimidated them that the leasing agency had the carpet company out there first thing Monday morning to rectify the situation. Instead:

Monday, May 9th: We sit on our rears in Kristiana's duplex, hyping her kids up and accomplishing precisely diddly squat.

Tuesday, May 10th: The carpeting people finally showed up, so Josh and I began moving ourselves in. Josh's dad and sister stopped by briefly (separately) to help us with a few pieces, but mostly Josh and I have moved everything in ourselves. Did I mention this is a 2-story duplex? My back has yet to forget that.

Josh makes a few calls before 5pm as we work on his job hunt, but mostly he leaves messages. Which becomes a problem because...

Wednesday, May 11th: Our phone line goes down. So anyone he left a message for now gets an out-of-order recording if they try to call him back. Josh's job hunt gets further delayed when the hard drive in our computer crashes. I spend the rest of the week alternately slapping, stroking, praying over and pleading with the computer, but wind up buying a new hard drive which may or may not have resolved the situation. Oh, and most of my software seems to be MIA.

Thursday, May 12th: Our phone line was restored by the end of the day, but too late to do us much good for the job hunt.

Friday, May 13th: Josh ran around town for an interview (for a job he doesn't want) and met with a few other prospective employers as well as setting up appointments for today (Monday the 17th).

On the bright side, our kids are deliriously happy here. Absolutely thrilled. In spite of Helena's exploding diapers (don't ask), the kids are just having the time of their lives. There are a ton of kids on this quiet street and relatives near by, so there is no shortage of activities. And, I think their favorite aspect of all, Mom wasn't able to get on the computer all week because our hard drive crashed.  (I've since replaced it.)

And really, we have a lot to be thankful for. If I hadn't been stranded on the road for those hours, we would've missed Josh and could've wound up in a much more rural area with no way to pay for a hotel and no place to fix the tire till Monday, since most small towns wouldn't have had a tire shop open on Mother's Day. And I realized later that the tire had been giving me trouble all the way from Chicago, and yet it didn't blow for the first 7 or 8 hours we were on the road. So thank Heaven for that!  In retrospect, we really have an enormous amount to praise God for.  The way Josh and I found each other over a 550 mile trip with no way to communicate is truly amazing.

And that's our move, not including the 18 hours I spent working on the computer and DSL problems or a lot of other trivial crud. Now, who actually made it through this novel? Because regardless of whether or not you read it, I feel like I just had therapy!
Now if I can only figure out why my computer is still having minor bugs, even with a new hard drive...

~ Joia, who is still laughing over the noises the cat made in the van for 10 hours.
