Bush Names Ambassador to Bulgaria

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush tapped veteran diplomat James W. Pardew to be ambassador to Bulgaria on Thursday.

 

 

Pardew, a 28-year Army veteran, is currently a special adviser on Southeast Europe for the State Department. During the Kosovo conflict, Pardew was deputy special adviser to the president and secretary of state on democracy in the Balkans. He previously directed the Military Train and Equip program for Bosnia and was part of the U.S. team in negotiations on the Dayton peace agreement for Bosnia.

His nomination to head up the U.S. embassy in Bulgaria must be confirmed by the Senate.
