From left to right are me, Joe Baker, Mike Tilley, my son, Cody, Mike O'connor, Dave (Red) Robinson, and Craig (Chip) McGivney. In the foreground are Mike Tilley's dog, Sarah, and Craig's dog, Romey. We all still have regular contact, sometimes daily, and live in or near Portland, Maine, where the Sammy B. was overhauled by Bath Iron Works after the mine blast. Every summer we get together and go camping on a remote island in the middle of a lake in the mountains outside Portland. We also get together on the anniversary of the mine blast, April 14, every year as a commemorative that we survived the experience. Not long before this camping trip, we had celebrated our tenth annual mine blast party. |
