I was warned that this film was quirky, and it was.  Make that very quirky; maybe even very, very quirky.  I tend to like films like this, though.  Anderson has a style that I very much enjoy, filled with lots of SteadiCam stuff, lots of long shots, lots of French Montage.  And most importantly, lots of excellent, snappy dialogue.  Technically, a wonderfully shot and directed film.  Its filled with tons of good acting, and even some great acting.  (That pretty much comes from Hackman.)  But finally, there is a fundamental flaw: no one is actually likeable, with one notable exception.  The effect of this is a general disinterest in the characters.  In fact, were it not for Luke Wilsons portrayal of Richie Tenenbaum, there would have been precious little redemption in the film.  Now this fact doesnt make it a bad film; far from it.  But it did leave me with a slightly bad taste in the mouth.  Also, I didnt like the use of colors at all; there were times when it was very subdued, and some times where everything seemed to be far too vibrant.  Also a bit disappointing to see Murray and Glover in mostly throw-away roles, even if they fill them admirably.  All in all, a fine technical achievement with a wonderful ensemble cast; worth seeing, if you can enjoy its extreme quirkiness.
