People need to make more of these.  Basically, just a wonderfully made crowd pleaser, in the very finest Steven Spielberg tradition.  Was my life incredibly improved because of it?  Definitely not.  Did it make me think of things I had never thought of before?  Umno, unless you count undead monkeys.  I was in just the right mood for watching it, but it is a load of fun.  It does run a tad long, and the story could have used a little work, but I didnt really notice that.  Too busy laughing and enjoying myself; sort of a guilty pleasure, I guess, like most early Spielberg stuff.  The cast is quite solid, with special mention to Rush and Pryce, who were both wonderful, (as were most of the more incidental characters).  The young leads left something to be desired, but didnt detract from the film too much overall.  Which brings me to the final cast member, and the real reason the film works: Johnny Depp.  His performance here is brilliant; there is no other word for it.  Without him, everything would come tumbling down.  But with him, it all adds together to nearly two and a half hours of pure enjoyment.  A must see, if there is a smidgen of inner child left in you anywhere.
"Me? I'm just dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It's the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they're going to do something incredibly... stupid."
