Another in a very long line of mediocre Hollywood crime thrillers.  This one doesnt have a tremendously imaginative set-up, but there is something different about it.  The film deals with the result of the twist, instead of focusing on the surprise twist itself.  Most films like this are pretty much over after we find out about the twist.  This film goes on for quite some time after that, though.  In fact, it seems to be more interested with how the characters deal with the twist than it is in the twist itself.  A nice change of pace from most films in this genre.  The directing is acceptable, if somewhat uninspired.  The visuals are fine, if somewhat uninspired.  And the cast is solid, if somewhat uninspired.  However, the entire film is elevated by Washingtons stellar performance.  He is faced with the daunting task of showing us someone who makes serious mistakes early on, and learns from them.  But he must be sympathetic the whole time.  Washington carries it off without a hitch.  In fact, after the film was over, I found myself reflecting that I really liked the main character far more than the film would justify, all do to Washingtons undeniable screen presence.  An enjoyable film, even if it leaves you feeing somewhat uninspired.
