Following is a short film - only about 70 minutes - from Christopher Nolan (of Memento fame).  There are some real similarities between the two: neither of them uses a traditional storyline, large sections are filmed in black and white, and everyone ends up being a lot more hideous than they appear at first.  And one more similarity: both scripts are simply spectacular.  Following's story is incredibly complex, and at the same time incredibly compact and believable, once things come to light.  The film's conclusion is outrageously brilliant.  The cast is excellent, despite its small size.  In fact, there are really no more than 3 actors.  Everyone else in the film could be someone straight off the street, considering how much screen time they have.  (John Nolan, for example, is Christopher Nolan's uncle.  He plays the police investigator, and you only see his face for about 5 minutes.)  But it really works, because you really don't care about anyone except for the 3 main characters anyway.  Nolan and his friends worked on the film on weekends for over a year, and it has the grainy, choppy look of a low budget project.  But Nolan's visual style is strong, and his directing is superb.  The quintessential student film, and executed to perfection.
