Before I get started, Id like to make one thing quite clear: I watched mostly for the technical detailslike the fact that is was shot in 70mm.  So, I was probably able to enjoy it more than I would have if I had actually wanted to watch it for the story.  Which is good, because there isnt one, really.  Strangely enough, though, I ended up disliking it almost more for technical reasons than for the storytelling ones.  The camera work is extremely busy, with lots of irrational movement and effects; all very irritating.  It really seems like Howard has no confidence in his ability to keep our attention on his own.  Strange, because that might actually be true at this point in his career.  Only other comments I have are that the movie has a really, really stupid dream sequence.  Why do people even use those?  They are so rarely appropriate!  Also, the Oklahoma Land Rush scenes are really, really well done.  Very dramatic.  And they show that Cruise can really ride a horse.  There is no way they could have gotten some of the shots they did without actually having him on the horse.  But its a pretty forgettable effort, all in all.  Dont waste your time on it.
