| NEWS 03/25/2003 Well, first, they have names now. ^_^ The old one's called Socks, because she has white feet, and the young one's called Yuki. I got that name from a manga called Fruits Basket, and Yuki is a boy who changes into a rat whenever a girl embraces him. I just liked the name, even though it's a boy's name, but Yuki's the rat prince, and so what. Second, on March 12th 2003, Socks had a litter of 11 adorable babies. They're 5 does and 6 bucks, and they haven't opened their eyes yet, but that'll happen any day now. I can't keep all of them, unfortunately. *sniffle* My b/f would absolutely kill me. We're just keeping two of the girls, a friend of mine (hi Marie) is taking two and another friend from school who already has a rat, takes another one. I just hope we'll find nice homes for the bucks. There's one buck who I hope will get a husky colouring, but I'm not sure. If so, I'll have to keep him. They're all so beautiful! There's also a beautiful black buck and one that could probably become fawn coloured, but I'm not sure. We'll see. I'll hopefully get up pics asap. Ta ta. - G 03/31/2003 Well, guess. We're having so much fun with the babies! They're running around and climbing around the cage and basically driving their mom nuts. ^_^ I haven't got a pic of Yuki, but that'll follow! I haven't found homes for the bucks yet, but I hope that'll happen soon. Ooh, I'd so like to keep them!! _'; Ta ta. - G 05/21/2003 Hi again. Good news. We kept all the babies. So we're up to 13 rats now. Thirteen. That's a word. ^_ That's pretty much it. - G 10/14/03 Bad news. Muffin's got cancer. My vet says it can't be taken out, and that she'll have to be put down soon. But she's so young... I don't want to let her go, but I don't want her to suffer either... *sigh* - G 12/10/03 Muffin was put to sleep on Saturday, December 6th 2003. I know she's okay now, and that I'll see her again some day. I love you, honey. I won't forget you. - G 02/04/04 We got a new rat today - Little Bitch. She's a biter and it will take some time till we'll be able to introduce her to the others, but I'm optimistic. - G 07/09/04 Buffy had to be put to sleep yesterday after fighting her tumors for a long time. I miss you, honey butt. - G 09/11/04 Azrael died yesterday on the way to the vet. I think his heart just stopped. Hug your sisters for me, sweetie. - G 09/15/04 Three new boys moved in today (Lucius, Merlin and Jareth). Yay! But they seem pretty sick. We'll see. - G 09/24/04 Fitur followed his brother Azrael. Goodbye, sweetie. - G 10/26/04 Witch had to be put to sleep after she developed a brain tumor. Farewell, honey. - G 11/18/04 Lucius had to be put to sleep today. He had so much trouble breathing I was afraid he'd suffocate. I love you, strawberry eye. Bye-bye. - G 011/11/05 Pirotess was put to sleep today after the size and location of her tumor made peeing painful for her. Goodbye, sweetheart. I hope I did the right thing. - G 03/24/05 Pnk passed away last night completely unexpectedly. I think he might have suffocated, but I'm not sure. I heard a strange noise and when I went over to have a look, he'd already lost consciousness and stopped breathing in my arms. Good-bye, my little strong-headed sweetheart. - G 04/23/05 Yuki and Little Bitch were put to sleep yesterday. Yuki had fluid in her stomach but was very thin otherwise, Little Bitch probably suffered from meningitis. We're not sure. Both were visibly in pain and passed away peacefully. Good-bye, little brownies. - G 07/19/05 Since my last update, we lost Jareth, Zora, Merlin, Socks, Spot and Spike. Farewell, my sweethearts. Little Spot is alone now, but next week three baby boys will be moving in - Mort Gurksky, Skywise and Loki - whom we hope to bring together with our old man. - G 12/06/05 The get-together of the Trio and Little Spot wasn't successful, unfortunately, but the old man is still up and about and gets extra cuddlies from me all the time. He'll be 2 years and 9 months old next week! - G |

| Midwinter When the days are the shortest, the nights are the coldest, The frost is the sharpest, the year is the oldest, The sun is the weakest, the wind is the hardest, The snow is the deepest, the skies are the darkest, Then polish your whiskers and tidy your nest, And dress in your richest and finest and best, For winter has brought you the worst it can bring, And now it will give you the promise of Spring!
