DR. JAMES DOBSON is founder and president of Focus on the Family, a non-profit evangelical organization dedicated to the preservation of the home. He is recognized as one of America’s foremost authorities on the family and is the author of numerous books, including The New Dare to Discipline, The Strong-Willed Child, When God Doesn’t Make Sense, Love Must Be Tough, Straight Talk, and Parenting Isn’t for Cowards, as well as the video series that acc ompanies this book, Life on the Edge. Dr. Dobson is a licensed psychologist in the State of California, and a licensed Marriage, Family and Child Therapist in the State of Colorado. He was formerly an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Univer sity of Southern California, School of Medicine. His international radio broadcast, "Focus on the Family," is heard on more than two thousand stations worldwide. He and his wife, Shirley, are the parents of two young adult children, Ryan and Dan ae.
