A Creed for Those Who Have Suffered
I asked God for strength, that I might achieve. I was made weak, that I might learn humbly to obey... I asked for health, that I might do great things. I was given infirmity, that I might do better things... I asked for riches, that I might be happy. I was given poverty, that I might be wise... I asked for power, that I might have the praise of men. I was given weakness, that I might feel the need of God... I asked for all things, that I might enjoy life. I was given life, that I might enjoy all things... I got nothing I asked for --but everything I had hoped for; Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am, among men, most richly blessed! ----attributed to an unknown Confederate soldier
Today, anything associated with the former Confederacy is denounced as racist, a tactic used mostly to avoid dealing with the actual issue of state sovereignty which was at the heart of the creation of the Confederate States of America. The War Between the States was not about race and southerners are by far the most kind, generous, friendly and religious people anywhere in the U.S., while northern liberals and those out on the "left coast" absolutely loath anyone who doesn't agree with their Marxist world view, southerners will be polite and tolerant of anyone so long as they show a little respect and good manners. The South is where people go to Church every week, where children say "please" and "thank you" and "yes sir" and "no sir", the South is where military service is an honorable profession, where families are strong and where people value hard work and independence, not dependence on the government to solve their problems.
