TOURISM @ a glance - Support universal downtown transportation accessible to tourists on a range of budgets. - Preserve the inner harbour as a working hub of civic spaces, events and services, while ensuring residential-friendly management of sea-plane and boating traffic. - Support the continued use of the Coho as a direct link to downtown Victoria. - Offer quick and easy, up-to-the-minute tourist tips and information by way of automatic mobile text and email services and AM, FM or 'bluetooth broadcasts'. - Provide improved designation and information on historically/culturally significant spaces and heritage buildings in the downtown core. - Work to make part-time residences compatible with the local housing situation by way of time-share arrangements and new tax policies. - Consider the creation of collaborative, free, inner-city shuttles with support from commercial vendors with dedicated stops. - Create more, affordable 'park'n'ride' stops for access to public transportation, trails and parks. - Improve downtown transportation and encourage designation of open public spaces as an alternatives to restricting the use of high-traffic commercial space downtown. - Support the construction of new family-friendly, tourism and education destinations such as the children's museum (not replacing public greenspace). - Work with neighbouring districts to collectively promote amenities and cross-municipal travel. - Support green tourism with incentives for eco-aware local outfits, recreation services and alternative transportation. - Build on 'garden city' image and recognize the value of green spaces, developments, projects and incentives in the tourism industry. - Improve level of activity and utilization of existing public spaces such as Market Square through organized entertainment and support of independent busking and performance. - Encourage more grass-roots and independently-driven downtown art projects and events. - Support and celebrate long-living tourist attractions as part of our local heritage.
