SEWAGE TREATMENT

@ a glance

Now that Victoria has made a solid commitment to implementing sewage treatment facilities, it's time to set aside our personal reservations about the initiative and ensure we develop the smartest, most effective, efficient, ecologically and economically-sustainable model possible. There are a number of things we can prioritize to ensure we benefit from this massive undertaking.

- Listen to the people - community consultation and information sessions have shown us that Victoria wants PUBLIC sewage treatment.

- Support the development of new facilities on already-developed land, not public greenspaces or parkland.

- Use the expertise of the Hartland landfill and other CRD programs to draw clean energy from waste material via fuel sequestration.

- Advocate for provincial funding that is fair and consistent, not dependent on municipal strategies that go against citizens' wishes.

- Induct Mr. Floatie into the Victoria walk of fame.

- Encourage the right and ability of green developments and refurbishments to integrate water systems using recycled 'gray water' to flush waste.

- Continue to consult citizens of Victoria and the CRD as development of sewage treatment facilities moves forward.
