sat upon her egg
near a bank
her mate was dead
she incubated her egg alone.
scarcely eating
the little gallinaceous gosling
hatched while she was away
so weak looking for food
steadfastly, the baby
followed the first thing
it saw as its eyes opened
near a bank
a crocodile patrolling the earth
