RANDOM SHOTS

We spent one week here at Indianola, Texas, in late spring of 1943 which was once a popular resort area until it was devasted by a hurricane many years ago. The fact that it once was a resort area did not apply to us, just more training for the gun batteries. The black graphic display was used to hide the fact that a 2 1/2 ton Army truck was parked there. If I'm not mistaken, when our convoy left Camp Hulen they were not blacked out while travelling the many miles it took to arrive here. The Unit designation does appear on the front and rear bumpers. I just don't get it.

In the Leyte section of my site, I presented a photo of our neighbors at their house in Dulag. Maybe, T/Sgt Clark might like to see this version, (he's the one minus the shirt.

Making the necessary preparations for the Sunday Church services in the California desert, 1943.

Picture was taken at the Staging Area in Leyte, in February 1945. Each flag represents one enemy plane shot down, the red dots indicate probables and although not shown in this photo, one half of a flag indicates partial credit shared with another gun.

From an upper level of the Army and Navy YMCA,in Honolulu was taken on April 9, 1944. The Bus Stop as you can see seems to be doing very well. There was a 9PM curfew in effect and in the seven or eight months that I was on the island I only stayed overnight twice, once at the "Y" and once at a four or five building dormitory for service personnel only.

The Royal Hawaiian Hotel located in Waikiki, Oahu 1944. I was informed that the Submariners were billeted there.
