With all the huffing and puffing and smokescreens mostly regarding computer glitches and shutdowns with all that entails for electronic society, we should learn not to get too alarmed about anything. My PC was knocked off from electrical failure during the 6.5 San Simeon Earthquake at 11:15:56 A.M., on December 22, 2003. Apparently my APC Smart-UPS SUA100NET did not function properly, or I was just too "shook up" to notice if it performed a graceful unattended shutdown of the PC as it is supposed to do.
