"A Weaver's Work Is In His Palm"
One of my favorite hobbies is doing hand crafts indicative of the pacific islands.  Below you will see pictures of me making a basket from start to finish using coconut leaves.  There are also some pictures of me making some leis.  I enjoy attempting new styles of leis and different types of baskets.  If I see a new style basket or lei, I have to try my hands at producing the exact same style.  I've been weaving since high school, and I also do Pandanus weaving.  Pandanus weaving is more intricate and difficult.  Pandanus leaves have to be treated before weaving, the process in preparing the leaves is hard work itself, and it takes a while.  The sun is essential for drying the leaves because it will bleach the leaves a certain color.  So the rainy season on Guam becomes a problem when gathering leaves.

To the right you will see a guafak (woven mat), with some flower leis, I love to do hand crafts indicative of the pacific islands.  I just started making the guafak, it takes me quite a while to do one four feet wide, and six feet long.
