About me

Welcome to my website.

My name is Jose Antonio de la Calle. I am an antitrust/competition
abogado based in the Madrid office of the leading international law firm Baker & McKenzie. Since joining Baker & McKenzie in 1998, I have been retained as legal counsel to major national and foreign companies to provide  assistance in connection with EU and competition law, primarily focusing my practice in the information technologies and communications (IT/C) industry.

As a competition law practitioner, I routinely advise national and foreign clients in connection with investigations undertaken by national competition authorities and/or the European Commission regarding alleged infringements of EC law in general, and competition law, in particular (e.g., cartels and other restrictive agreements, abuses of dominant position, state aids). I also provide competition advice on all kinds of agreements and contracts of a national as well as a European scope; and organise and participate in tailored competition law compliance programmes.

I am very experienced in merger control filings and have been directly involved in providing counsel in some of the most high-profile deals in recent Spanish corporate history.

In addition, I provide legal advice to companies active in the IT/C sector on all types of commercial transactions. Services specially demanded by clients include but are not limited to the drafting and negotiation of complex agreements related to outsourcing, interconnection and commercialisation of electronic communications services. I also advise on regulatory issues related to the Spanish IT/C legal framework.

Aside from Spanish, I am fluent in English, have a working command of French and conversational Swedish.
