Crows Landing, California (circa 1920)

Crow Ranch was leased from the Crow family by my grandfather and his brother and their partners.  From left to right: Jose Silveira Goncalves Jr. (my grandfather, also known by "Jose Correia"),  Jose Silveira da Cunha ("Jose Beatriz"), Manuel Jose da Silveira (o famoso cantador "Silveirinha" dos Rosais), Manuel Silveira Goncalves (my grand-uncle, on horseback), and Antonio Silveira Luz.
In 1923, my grandfather returned to the Azores, married, and raised his family.  Eventually, all his partners also returned to Rosais.  Only his brother Manuel stayed, never returning to the Azores.  Manuel married Rosa Luz and they had two children, Manuel and Luiza.  The son Manuel  continued with his dad's farming business and to this day the Gonsalves Farm is still a well-known business in Crows Landing, California, now run my Manuel's grandson.
