JOSAI CHUGAKKO VOLUNTEER CLUB
" PROJECT LITERACY "
During the month of March, Josai Volunteer club students focused on social problems in India, such as iliteracy. Excluding the capital and large cities of India, the general population is 60% iliterate. JVC members learned about iliteracy and its social impact on a community. Japanese youth, living in the most literate country in the world, have little experience with the social inequalities and problematic education systems that exist in many other parts of the world.

For this reason, we decided to do a literacy project, to give the students a chance to see what it is like to teach someone who is iliterate how to read.
JVC Students show their final work - a book written in English. After finishing their books, they read them to the Shogakko students during an English club. The project helped students to learn about iliteracy and what it is like to read to another person who is iliterate in that language. The shogakko students are iliterate in English and JVC students had the opportunity to read to them during the English club.
