Most generally, a good rain shower excepted, garden plants don't like to get their petals or foliage wet. If you are able to manage it, the best way to water your flowers is with soaker hoses. Unobtrusively buried beneath your garden's mulch layer, they allow water to ooze out at a rate the ground can absorb. Less water on flowers and foliage means less disease-- a plus for plants susceptible to blackspot. A thorough soaking (6-8 hours) once a week is all your flowers need to thrive. Watering just once a week also encourages roots to grow deeper, helping your plants survive drought. |
