"You say Tomato, and I say Tomahto..."

You say determinate and I say indeterminate... what exactly are we talking about?

Determinate-  A tomato plant that grows, produces a fruit harvest, and then ceases production.  It stops producing fruit because each stem "terminates" in a flower bud.  Usually these types of tomatoes are referred to as bush types.

Indeterminate-  A tomato plant that will continue to grow and produce fruit throughout the season, usually ceasing production at frost time or shortly thereafter.  These plants are generally referred to as vining types.  They require staking or caging to support their bulk.
