Don't you wish making the most of your northern garden could be as effortless as gliding on ice?  Well, we all know that there's nothing effortless about gardening in any climate, but Bennett's revised and expanded 1996 edition of The Harrowsmith Northern Gardener (original copyright 1982) will certainly give you the information you need to enjoy success in your Michigan garden.
Chapters include site preparation, efficient use of space, climate zones, design, bloom periods, fencing, tools, soil fertility, compost, planting schedules, cold frames, germination, pests, weeds, diseases, harvesting, recipes, canning, dehydration, root storage, freezing, and an alphabetical listing of flowers, herbs, and vegetables.  The preceeding list hasn't even begun to cover all that this book offers!  The full color photos plus black and white illustrations are lovely to look at.
I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in flower or vegetable gardening in colder climates.
