| Jorge C. Sague, 41, a native of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba , graduated from Northern High School, 76 Baltimore, Maryland and has a B. A. in Sociology from the State University of New York Regent�s Program. Mr. Sague has been HIV positive since 1982 and currently enjoys very good health. Jorge Sague has one son, Jason, 23. Mr. Sague is Roman Catholic and is a member of Christ the King Church in Norfolk. Jorge Sague joined the U.S. Navy in 1978 and served at sea and overseas in Europe, until 1986, when he received an honorable discharge. Jorge Sague joined the civil service in communications at Norfolk Naval Station until the present. He assists arriving vessels in connecting to the base telephone system. Volunteering for the Tidewater AIDS Crisis Taskforce from 1986-1991, he performed many duties, including answering hotline calls, driving individuals to appointments, and educating the community about the risks of HIV/AIDS. In 1991 he participated in the creation of the Eastern Virginia HIV CARE Consortium where he had been in progressively challenging positions and assumed the Chairmanship in September 1995 finishing the term in September 1997, cumulative budget $2.5 million. From 1993-1998, Mr. Sague was an advisor to Youth Out United (YOU), Hampton Roads� gay and lesbian youth group, supervising rap sessions, leading trips, educational presentations, and referring many young individuals to further assistance with agencies and families. Grant budget for 1998 FY $32,000. He serves as a resource for parents who are coping with coming out issues. From 1996-1998 Mr. Sague was appointed to the Commonwealth of Virginia AIDS Drug Assistance Program Advisory Board, evaluating and approving medicines for the treatment of HIV infections ensuring that the public dollars appropriated by the Federal government and the Virginia General Assembly are maximized. Total budget for this program was 3.04 million for FY 1997. From 1998-1999 the Mayor of Norfolk, Virginia, as the Chief Elected Officer of the Eligible Metropolitan Area (EMA), appointed Mr. Sague to chair The Greater Hampton Roads HIV Health Services Planning Council under the Ryan White C.A.R.E. Act Title I. 1999 Grant award: $3.66 million. From 1998 to the present he has volunteered with Animal Rescue of Tidewater in the effort to make Hampton Roads a no kill community by educating the community, directly rescuing animals, and assisting at the City of Norfolk's Animal Management Center. He is a member of the Norview Civic League. |
