| The Color Of Innocence | ||||||||||||||||||||||
| Why is white the color of innocence? You know I'm not, but in my defense I was never meant to be innocent Perhaps that's why I have dark eyes So secrets can be hidden from lovers' spies And my eyes can be my soul's disguise And whiter lips, no, I own maroon So they won't whisper my thoughts too soon And so singing to you, I'm never in tune But the walls of my room are turned to green Darker a little while you're asleep And I stare to discover what I mean Why is white the color of innocence? You know I try, and in my defense My life and love will never make sense Perhaps that's why my blood runs red And why it's always rushing from my head Like my daydreams, long since fled And back to the eyes I have on me I look in the mirror but never can see How deep I am, or if I'm just empty All my money, silver and gold I can hide away between the folds Till thoughts are lost in my black holes So why is white the color of innocence? I'm not white, and I have no defense My dark must be my lack of innocence And that's why white is the color of innocence Cause nothing can be white, if that makes sense And I was never meant to be innocent |
