Sand And Sunlight
At last we're on the land, now
Washed up to the sandy beaches
Shipwrecked now, to what is here?
A desert island, perhaps, no longer deep
Only dry and wide with room inside
For all who venture to this place
And taste the coconut's sweet milk
Rejoice in the ground beneath their feet

Again, I'll absorb, absorb the sun
Are you used to the blinding glare?
Some can't stand to look it in its face
Smile back and see that really
Everything we see and know is
Insignificant specks of colored glass
Lying on one beach in a million
A rainbow of imperfection and sand

But are you used to sunlight?
Have you ever tried to be bright?
Your gold is nothing but glints now
Pride is nothing to the proud, now
Abandoned on land, thrown out by the sea
We can't be deep enough there
So survive on land, you must make me solid
We now are bound to each other

Do you still have sunlit dreams
Of love on sand hand in hand?
We're on land now, but it sinks
Moving and twirling at such a rate
Many cannot maintain their balance
Many fall to the claws of Mars
But basking in sunlight is hard work
And land must be reached delicately

And walking on lonely beaches
The sea pushes in on all sides
A little lone island out in the space
Now I know how a star feels
Famous, part of a constellation
But burned out after no time at all
Islands, land, walking hand in hand
Sunlight and sand company

Islands, land, sitting to stand
Sunlight and sand company
Sunlight and sand company

Do you still love like we once did?
We have faded now like colors
Colors of blue and sandy tan
And sometimes don't you give a damn?
I know sometimes I give a damn
But I'm not here to feel for you
And sunlight caves in those too dark
And sand takes to sea those too weak

And prancing among palm trees
Your fancy form divided to me
Shadow, sundown, no, sunrise
But shadows don't worry me
Cause I am sturdy in my opinions
Always adapt when proven lastly
And you are a shadow on the sand
Showing me how to adapt to you

Island, land, walking hand in hand
Sunlight and sand company
Sunlight and sand
We have on the land

And gone for a moment under the sun
Everything goes eventually, you see
But some things fade slower
And some may even die together
And those pebbles ground to dust
Beneath your shoes so delicate
Turn to your past, present, and future
Together viewing viewers on the land

Does the sunlight ever scare you?
It scares us all at times
To be bound to a mortal world
And, young one, you will die
But we have the whole future
We have all the sunlight
We could desire to live with
All the sand we could want to bathe in

Christ, my friend, look at you
Beauty is the world in you
And though sand is sometimes soft
And sunlight can be slippery
I will keep you on the land
Show you where to hide and sing
At last we're on the land, now
Washed up to the sandy beaches

Islands, land, walking hand in hand
Sunlight and sand company
Islands, land, walking hand in hand
Sunlight and sand and sea
Islands, land, beaches and sand
Sunlight and sand company
Islands, land, walking hand in hand
Sunlight and sand company
